Hi All,

First post: We are in the market for a 2022 or higher year Tahoe with low mileage. I have been doing my best to browse around and see what the known issues are and what I should check for before purchasing. I know there is a recall on the 6.2L, I was wondering about the 5.3L? Are we better off going with the diesel? Should we avoid it altogether? Many thanks in advance!

I would look for a 5.3 as they are easier to find and are more common. I have a 21 Suburban High Country with a 6.2 and 88,000 miles and have had no trouble with the engine. I did have to have a new transmission installed last Feruary at 80,000 miles. I bought it used last summer with 70,000 miles. What ever you do, I would change all of the fluids and filters when you buy it. You never know who owned it and how they took care of it. Also the 6.2 uses premium fuel.

Don’t be scared… get the 6.2, before you buy insist on having it independently inspect by the dealer… if they hear the problem, great, it’s warranty but you will need to wait 2-3 weeks before your new motor is installed, so you can go back and grind for a bit. If not you will have a special engine warranty and free oil change.
