brake upgrade ideas?

im looking to upgrade my brakes somehow. in the past on my other trucks i would just do new HAWk HPS brake pads. but im wanting to do a bit more on this one. now , on my camaro, it was an easy upgrade....CTS-V calipers. is there any caliper upgrades that bolt on without any crazy mods? i dont really want to spend 3K on a big brake kit. so if there isnt any caliper change i can do, then im thinking stainless steel brake lines, and new Pads all the way around. any suggestions?

There was a guy on pt.net that did a Z06 conversion on the GMT900 platform, but you are still upwards of $2K once that's done.

Other than that, even a 2-piston Baer caliper is still a PBR caliper and offers nothing more than the stock setup does.

I'd save up $ for the real deal.

still a z06 upgrade is gonna be cheaper and probably better than a 6 piston setup from stoptech. you dont have a link for that do you? i have my old brakes from my camaro( 4 piston) i wonder if they would work somehow.....

Your problem will be getting someone to manufacture a billet bracket to work with the spindle to attach the caliper to. You can't just throw a z06 caliper on. Needs to space it back and you need to run a 15" Baer rotor. I did this setup on my 06. We also did a wilwood setup on my wife's Burban and I can tell you I felt MUCH safer with the wilwood than the Z06. Stopped much quicker and efficiently.

I don't have any other details on how to make them work on a gmt900 platform, you're on your own with that.

IMO a good upgrade is to give clkelley a shout. He's a vendor on here (Synthetic Motorsports) and has some great options for brakes that won't cost you a lot of money! They perform well and his customer service is second to none!

i just wish there was a more cost effective big brake kit...i really cant justify spending 3k for stop tech front kit( i say them because they are the cheapest ive seen) and 3k for the rear. my cts-v upgrade on my camaro cost me just under 1000. id love to find a direct swap caliper, but if icant find that, ill probably just do pasds and brakelines til i find someone who has swapped other brakes on.

Wilwood 6-piston front and 4-piston rear is like $4800+/- complete. Do it in steps. Front was like $2000 on special last year. Maybe they'll run it again.

IMHO you are looking to spend more and do more than you truly need to upgrade the braking over the stock rotors and pads. Installing R1Concepts Premium Series "Double cross drilled" and slotted rotors and Posi Quiet Ceramic pads would do a lot more than you think they would and would not break the bank to do so.

I'll put it this way, I have the same set up on my 03 Duramax and have not only had them on it for two years, but have hauled MANY loads like the one pictured below without breaking issues, without brake squealing, without brake dust ALL OVER the rims. In my humble opinion you just cannot beat the quality for the price. Period.

how are the pads holding up with the drilled and slotted rotors?

They are holding up amazingly well. I have not experienced ANY of the chunking or problems that others have talked about having with the drilled rotors. I also haven't experienced any cracking in the rotors either. I have heard several horror stories about these issues, but have not only not experienced the problems myself, I have been selling R1Concepts brake parts since 2009 and have yet to have a customer complain about any of those issues. That is the main reason I promote their products as much as I do, I truly believe in the quality of their parts.

I have a few.

Here is a pic of the Premium Rotors I have here now getting ready for installation on a 2005 Dodge 3500 Dually 4x4 Cummins

Here is a pic of the Pads and Premium rotors after 11 months and about 10K miles, of which about 7500 of those miles were put on the truck while loaded with Christmas trees loaded onto a gooseneck tri-axle trailer with 26ft of actual flatbed, the AVERAGE load weight being around 35K lbs total gross.

You can see the lighter colored dust around the black corrosion coating. This is without cleaning them after running throughout the 14 day hauling season.

Here you can see how much pad is left after that "abuse".

what kind of warranty is on them?

There is a lot of information concerning their warranty policies, so I have provided that information in a thread located through the link I have pasted below. That being said, I have only had one time that any of my customers have had to use the warranty; in that particular case there was a manufacturer defect in the rotors that caused the need for them to be replaced and I handled the situation for the customer (a member here on this site) and R1 shipped his new replacement rotors the same day so that he had his new replacements within days of figuring out that there was a need for them to be replaced. I also have a thread posted in the Synthetic Motorsports section of this forum that explains the situation with those warranted rotors if you would like to see more about that.

I have been selling them since 2009 and actually using them for longer than that and that one customer is the only person that has ever had a need for a warranty replacement.
