At what mileage should I considering trading in my Tahoe??

We have 180K on ours and travel from Reno to Colorado, Michigan, Montana a lot and this is becoming a major concern for us. While we have AAA downtime with gear and inconvenience is not an option. We are currently looking at 18-20's as a replacement.

Just turned over 284K on my 2007 Tahoe. Bought it at 147K in 2017. It was a State Department of Justice unmarked surveillance vehicle (found that out after I bought it). It has been been all over and driven almost every day...to east TX once, WA once, NV, CO, and KS numerous times (from Northern CA). I religiously maintain routine maintenance between every 5000 and where the onboard computer says 25% oil life left (usually about 7000-7500). I deal with any issues that come up as soon as I can, and it is still a solid truck.

I still have AFM active, and have had no problems with that at all. It DOES burn a bit of oil...supposedly there are improved valve covers that might help that (saw something about that in another post on here a while back). I had a leaky rear main seal, and the oil pan seal is leaky. Fixed the rear main during the transmission change, and plan on fixing the oil pan on one of my upcoming oil changes. I have replaced the transfer case and the transmission within the last two years (not together), and have a contingency fund saved up for an engine replacement when it goes. I have no knocks, pings, or bad sounds coming from the hood. The front running gear is starting to creak a little bit...I've told my mechanic that it sounds like perhaps some worn bushings or spring brackets, but he so far hasn't been able to find the source. I wish I had a lift so I could take the weight off it and start pulling and poking around till I find it, but oh well...

I LOVE this truck, and have it set up just how I like it (radios and emergency response gear), and I don't want to outfit a newer model until I freakin' have to, so I plan on running it forever, or until the sub-systems just give out on it and I can't bring it back to life.

I usually buy them with 80K to 100K, sell them when they get well over 300K.

I've gotta be honest. I just bought my 2008 Tahoe Z71 last August from an older couple who kept paperwork and used a garage I know. It had 304k miles on it but was well taken care of! This is my 3rd Tahoe and i love them. I was in a budget when buying this time. So high mileage helped make it affordable. And I still paid under book value. The way I looked at it was I love the vehicle and everything it has on it. To me, it was worth it bc its exactly what I want and if the engine goes, it's still worth it to me to rebuild it. Definitely for now bc the price of the newer models is a little expensive for me. As of right now, she has 316k miles and still running strong! I just wanted to share. It's really nice to have a vehicle with everything you love paid for and just spend $ in upgrades, regular maintenance or if something a little major does pop up, spend $ on that without worrying about the outrageous payment too! #ChevyGirl

Wow you guys are great candidates for one of the 3.0L turbo diesel Yukon,Burb, Tahoe with that much seat time. You'd get over 400mi per tank.

Wow you guys are great candidates for one of the 3.0L turbo diesel Yukon,Burb, Tahoe with that much seat time. You'd get over 400mi per tank.

Sure, I would love it but cannot justify (or afford) the $70K sticker. We get almost 500 miles a tank now with our 30 gallon one in the 08.

Gotcha, also makes sense why a short term lease wouldn’t work, milage. A CPO or a GMPP truck may give you a nice leg up in a few years to move over to a diesel. Diesel hybrid or full EV trucks may be a thing in a few years which means the 3.0L diesels may be available as a CPO for $10K or two off original MSRP.

Ironically, yesterday, this showed up.

True to form, the full EV will appear in the trucks, then likely be introduced in the SUV just like the 3.0L TD all aluminum Duramax did.

I just wait for stuff to break thrn rebuild it better than stock. Over time vehicle just gets better...

If you serviced the engine, tranny, tx case, and diffs regularly should run damn near forever... although not sure about AFM stuff on newer engines but if that goes out still runs, you can delete it.

Then you have the wearable parts... radiator, shocks, brakes, etc. all is very easy to swap out. esp with quick internet search.

If was me, I would swap out all critical aged parts... and keep running it. It is a truck, they are VERY tough and built to last.

This, exactly. The great part is rebuilding it better that stock usually costs less than what the dealer would charge with a better end product.

Is it just me, or do the new GM trucks look ugly? They remind me of pugs with those big flat noses... Then they have hard lines, steps, and stuff hanging all over them. What ever happened to sleek curves, and clean looks?
