Has anyone added a third row seat to the 99 Yukon? I would like to move the bench seat to a 3rd row, and place two captains chairs where the current seat is. Has anyone attempted this? Is it hard to do? Expensive?

Also, does anyone have a good source for these type of chairs/seats?

Never seen it done, but anything is possible. You'd probably have to start by finding yourself a Suburban 3rd row seat. I think your Yukon 2nd row might be too wide to work.

As far as a source, start searching the salvage yards.

I've seen a 3rd row bench seat in a '98 a long time ago. I didn't take a good look at it but at glance it did seem like factory.

Your best bet would be to look into Denali trim Yukons and/or Escalades. My friend's Escalade had a bench in the back along with 2 captain's chairs for the 2nd row but his is a GMT800.

you may be able to use the bolt holes that are currently used for the 4 tie down lugs in the rear compartment and maybe make some brackets for the seat to bolt down with those holes. dunno, just a guess.

I never thought about the existing seat being too wide for the rear, must you may have a point.

How about this. Leave the second row seat as is and install captains chairs in the third row. How hard would this be? Where could you bolt the brackets into?

the idea of adding a third row seat is interesting, although i do like my cargo space. i don't know if i'd go that route or not, but does anyone have an update on this?

along those lines, does anyone know if the newer split 3rd row would fit in a 95-99? I have a 96 tahoe and am planning on putting in the 3rd row. I do like the NBS split seats so I could still have space for luggage and stuff.

Justa thought

I have been looking into this. I have a friend with a 3rd row that they never use, or even have in the vehicle. It's out of a 2001 Denali with the 3rd row, hoping that it will fit my 99 Denali.

What I’ve found was that the factory third row option was not available till 2001. There was an exception for 2000. If the 2000 Tahoe/Yukon had the lift glass and tail gate option instead of barn doors the factory seats could be installed. If you remove the cargo hooks from the rear and lift up the carpet you should see the floor board was contoured for the factory brackets.

I’m about to purchase a 99 that has the lift glass/tail gate option. First thing that I’m going to do is lift up the carpet to see what the floor board looks like.

Look at this web site for more aftermarket options: http://store.theseatshoponline.com/default.aspx

thanks for the link. I just called them though and asked about the tailgate only vehicles and he said it was due to just two customers returning the items because they couldn't get it to work with their barn doors. He said since then other people with the barn doors have mounted the seat with no problem at all.
