So after much forum research, googling, etc I known that my Tahoe is "prewired" for the backup camera mirror. I have triple checked that the blue and white wires are in the mirror connector in the correct pin positions. So the question is where is the connection for the camera at, many say in the drivers side kick panel but it's not there. One guy on a forum doing the same project on an avalanche stated that he found it running down the left side headliner after the harness split at the top of the left a-pilar. So just looking for any advice, I understand how to wire all this. I just want to know where that other input connect is in the Tahoe.

Just so no one is asking, I am a current Texas police officer. That's how I purchased this vehicle new.

On my 2013 Suburban, the wiring does go down the driver's side A-pillar, but then crosses along the instrument panel harness to the passenger side kick panel. There's a separate plug there where it connects to the body harness just to the left of the main body harness plug. Might be the same for the Tahoe.

Well I found it! I had to drop the headliner and do some exploring. The connector for my Tahoe was in the right hand "c" pillar, just tucked away. I followed the harness from the left "a" pillar, the harness is glued to the headliner.

I made peeled back some of the tape on the harness to make sure that the shielded wire did travel to the rear. It did!

Then I flowed it back and checked the pillars, bam there it was on the right "c" pillar, blue and white wires. It even appears that there is a ground wire on the female end as well. I also located some other harness end but don't know what that is.

Here is the location where it was

So now what would go from this point? Is there an oem wire extension? I know of the one on eBay, but I figured I'm already this far so...

After studying the wiring diagram for the camera circuit a bit, there appear to be three connection points in the chassis. Connector X421, which is what you found at the C pillar. (It's not clear to me in the photo, does the camera wiring terminate there? Or is it connected to another harness?) Connector X209, which is what you should find at the passenger side kick panel (this is meant to be a connector for those who have the Nav screen). And Connector X413 which is supposed to be located in the vicinity of where the liftgate harness connects to the main body harness at the rear of the vehicle under the roof panel. I think if X413 is there as a part of the pre-wiring, then one approach would be to find the correct liftgate harness to retrofit, or to simply extend the camera portion of the harness. Wiring diagram attached.

It terminates at the "c" pillar, there is another end that was with it but that does obviously not fit with the camera connection. I will check the harness near the rear by the lift gate.

Ok so here's where I am now. I extended that harness with the plug, it almost reached the rear hatch area. Did some research via the parts sites and found that there is are 2 harnesses for the lift gate one has the camera wires one doesn't. So I ordered the new harness with the camera wires the plug for the camera matched but the plug that would meet in the roof after it passed from the lift gate doesn't. The new lift gate harness also has these wires in addition to the blue and white ones

I checked my part number for my current lift gate harness and it doesn't match anything anywhere. Just wondering if I'm missing a splitter or something. I know that camera will need to draw power from some source.

Cant you just hook the power to the reverse light and plug the input to the screen ?

The wiring diagram I attached shows you exactly what you need to do.

ok so that wiring harness i bought did have the backup camera harness in it but... it really meant for the vehicles that have the nav head unit. so i stripped the camera wiring harness out of it. i then attached the correct colors to the connector x413, my only wire that i haven't connected was the dark blue that would go to the bcm I'm assuming in need to connect the dark blue to a 12v power source? also will i need a voltage reducer to make the 12v power 6v to the camera?

You lost me. X413 is a separate connection that is routed along the main body harness adjacent to where the liftgate harness attaches. If it was there, then all you needed to do was plug the UVC portion of the liftgate harness you purchased into it. If it was not there, aside from the camera +, -, and shield which you should extend from the C-pillar, the blk/wht wire needs to go to a chassis ground, the pink wire is switched battery voltage, and the dark blue wire should be jumped to the reverse lights. I can't answer your voltage reduction question other than to say that if you are using the factory reverse camera, my assumption would be that it already contains whatever it needs in terms of a voltage dividing circuit. Hope that helps.

Yea I was typing that late at night, as long as the blue wire is where reverse lights are jumped in we should be good to go. When I took the harness apart the pink and black/white wires were part of the main lift gate harness so I cut those off. I then extended the light blue, white and bare to connector x421 (the one that was in the c pillar) as the attached diagram showed. The dark blue wire that was supposed to go to the bcm is the only one I was left over with. I should be getting the camera in this week and the mirror as well, all I can do now is wait

My camera wire says this :

Do I still need a 12v to 5v converter?

Seems unlikely. Pretty sure that the '12V' printed on the harness tag is indicating 12 volts.

I'm following this closely. I'm trying to do the same thing to my 08 Tahoe. My radio is wired for it. Just wasn't sure where the wires are. Thanks for the pictures and info. It will make it a lot easier when I do mine.

Finished.... Works great

This is a worth while project. What I found most confusing about it was the different information about the different oem cameras. It appears there is 3 different generations of cameras: the 07 -08 that has the 4 way plug on the end and is 5v, another 5v version that has a square 4 way connector that is used in the Silverado trucks, the finally the 09-14 camera that is 12v.

I would recommend just buying the appliqué with the harness already installed. Follow the uvc diagram that was given to me in this post, it is the correct way to wire it up. The dark blue goes to your reverse lights and the pink goes to any ignition source.

The parts are on the reasonable side due to the recent body style change. Thanks to the replys on this! It helped a lot!
