Again the fuel gauge in our 99 Tahoe 4x4 Basic 5.7 is erratic. Last time it was fixed by cleaning the ground. The Mechanic that fixed it isn't available and I don't know where the fuel level sensor ground is located. I cleaned a ground behind the left rear wheel close to the bumper with no joy. This may not be the correct ground. I'm hoping someone here will know the location.

No problem. But that being said, those years had failures in gauge stepper motors in the clusters and fuel level senders.(aka fuel pump assembly replacement).

Thanks for the additional info. I can check the cluster myself if we don't find a poor ground.

www.charm.li has good service info. When you click on the links below, verify that the vehicle info is correct or navigate to the correct diagram for yours.

Here's the fuel pump wiring diagram, showing the ground at G404:

This diagram shows where G404 lives (since it's a Tahoe, scroll down to the Utility diagram):

And, lastly, here's the diagnostic path for P0463:

It can be reached through the driver rear wheel well and sits on top of the frame towards the front of the truck. Kind of a pain to access and see clearly.
