So I still daily my 1999 Tahoe with 240k miles. Original drivetrain, original 4l60 (still hasn’t started slipping) and original 350. Tow a boat that weights 3500-4000 pounds all summer long at the beach with no issues. Only inclines it finds while towing are the ramp. Love the truck.

Considering renting a travel trailer and towing it to the mountains with it. Trailer would be pushing 5500-6000 pounds max tow levels. There is one section 6 mile section of steep grade on the drive that i know very well. That is the only part of the trip I could see being a real challenge. Truck has a the tow pack with the 8 pin/big hitch/brake controller. i have no problem with taking it slow and steady.

Anyone push their older trucks like this? How do they do?/how don’t they do?

All input is appreciated.

It will do it. Travel lite, easy to add 1000 lbs to camper/truck if not careful. NO OVERDRIVE!

i didn't do alot of towing with my 97 when i still had it but i did pull close to 6000 about 150 miles or something cant remember. lots of hills around here kept it out of overdrive unless i was going downhill or a flat road. did the trip without any problems. all i would say is its above your normal towing weight so extra care should be taken just because. a more thorough going over might be of interest to you.
