So been having this weird issue with my tahoe, I can be driving on the highway or idling at a light and all the sudden it will shut off on me. I have replaced the ignition coil / Cap / rotor / plugs / wires / fuel filter, also checked the fuel pump relay and that's working.

All of this it has made the problem a bit better but not much, when it dies it takes about 5 tries before it starts up again.

Any ideas what else I can check / look at? Seems to me like is some kind of electrical issue cause by a sensor.

Thanks

Fuel pressure/vapor lock issue perhaps??

My next step was to swap the fuel pump, however in my experience in the past fuel pumps just don't start failing, they either work or don't this is why I'm leaning towards some kind of sensor ?

Get an OBD1/USB cable and run a real time scan, if you think it's a sensor. Mine did the same thing to me last year, it was vapor locked.

How did you fix the vapor lock? Also where did you get the ODB1 / USB cable?

Thanks

Do you think it could be the PCM? is just so strange that it works on / off?

PCM is a possibility but i had sort of the same issue a while back my truck would shut off sometimes at idle or after backing up... never at highway speeds tho but it was weird, turned out to be my spider and very dirty EGR valve

Spider? can you explain? Also where is the EGR valve and how do you clean it?

Thanks

there is a write up on here on how to clean the EGR valve of carbon buildup ect.. im going to try and find it if one of you guys has the link plz chime in , but the Fuel spider , factory these trucks came with plastic fuel spiders in the intake manifold that provided fuel to each cylinder bank , however being plastic and practically in the, engine they had a tendacy to melt or become inop, mine had three completly fubard , they made a fix for this now the "spiders" come metal instead of plastic. im not saying this is it but it sounds familiar to what my problem was.
i also had trouble starting it once it shut off normally 2 to 3 attempts

unknown at this time.
vapor lock is very highly unlikely. the pump is constantly pushing fuel thru the system and is always recirculating fuel thru the system back to the tank. so unless your pump is bleeding air into pressure line vapor lock is very unlikely. even if it was doing it it would cause some rough running momentaerily. it would not cause an instant shutdown. doing freeway speeds. you either have heat related or vibration related electronics failure. there is a control module inside the distributor that you can remove and have tested at some auto parts stores. if removed ensure you put plenty of silicone thermal grease between it and the base to ensure it draws heat away from module to prevent overheating and shutdown. if this ends up being your culprit accel #35370 makes a excellent performance replacement but is pricey at $85.
