While driving today, I noticed something odd: after shutting off the truck, the front blower kept running. I tried manually adjusting the fan speed and realized only the rear vents responded—the front just kept blowing at full force. To avoid draining the battery overnight, I ended up pulling the fuse for the front blower motor.

I'm guessing there's a relay involved somewhere, but I wasn’t able to track it down. My searches only turned up removal/replacement instructions for the motor itself. Could the relay be integrated into the blower motor? If not, I’d appreciate it if someone could point me to its location so I can get it replaced. It's pushing the upper 90s with brutal humidity, and driving around without AC isn’t going to cut it.

Thanks in advance!

Go back out after 10-15 minutes and see if it’s off. There is something programmed in to keep the blower running to dry out the airbox so mold doesn’t form it’s called afterblow or something. You can take it to dealer to shut that feature off but it may have been turned on because the previous owner was getting a moldy smell

Damn... I had no idea... I only bought the Tahoe few months ago, and didn't know that was a thing. I'll throw the fuse back in it and check, but I don't think that's it due to the fan speed not changing when I manually adjusted it. That's good info though. Thanks

If the vehicle is off you won’t be able to adjust fan speed, no electric going to controls.

It was when the vehicle was running that we noticed that the rear blower was the only one that was affected by the manual controls. The front blower wasn't changing speeds at all. Looks like the fuse is staying out until I can talk to someone at the dealership.. :( Does anyone know if the relay is a part of the blower, or if it's separate?

Btw, you know there is auto, sync and separate controls for the rear. In auto when temp is dumped all the way down fan speed blows at high, adjusting the temp warmer lowers the fan speed and when on sync all fans follow that control. The auto control is automatically disengaged when you manually adjust fan speed tho. Just putting that out there….round button in the middle adjust fan speed and 3 lower horizontal buttons control rear a/c

Yep, I know all of that. With the Tahoe running, I hit the Sync button and only the rear fans would change. I could still manually control the rears with the lower controls just fine.

Does anyone know about the relay? Where it is? If it's a part of the blower motor that's up behind the glove box?
