Do they not make a frame mounted hitch for suburbans? I’ve heard horror stories about these things being totaled if you are towing or have the hitch in and you get rear ended it could bend the frame. Was hoping to get a frame mounted receiver, but I can’t find anything anywhere. Or even any one talking about it. Hopefully I’m just terrible at searching for things. Thanks!

It is not necessary. The hitch is part of the frame and if damaged can be unbolted and replaced.

I know of a guy who expressed the same concerns as you. About 5 or 6 years ago he posted photos of the hitch he added underneath the existing one over at the GM-Trucks forum and you'll be happy to know that his is also a 2500. It'll take some searching as their engine is not the easiest to use. I think at the time I came across his post because I was looking to add the second fuel tank to my 1500. I think it was between 2017-2019.

The GMT800 2500 trucks were the ones susceptible to frame bending/cracking.

I've logged about 20,000 miles towing an 8600-lb trailer with my 2008 2500. 1120-lb tongue weight, not using weight distribution. No issues. Research those numbers and you'll see I'm way over the 'published' ratings.
