2011 Yukon Transmission issues

Good Evening all, I have a 2011 Yukon with 124k miles. Today while driving, it acted like it jumped out of gear or shifted to Neutral. Pulled over to side of road and found it would not move in drive, reverse or any manual gears. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it and it shifted into drive and took off. I tried to drive the 2-3 miles home and it did the same thing a couple more times. Each time, turning it off and restarting without sitting for anytime and it would take off again. After restarting, it seemed to shift normally without any slip or stutter. As I got home, and messing with it in the driveway, I did notice a “pump whine” like sound. Fluid is normal range and appears to be normal clearish red color. Just curious if there’s any common problems I should check before calling the transmission shop.

Have you tried changing the filter? And saying what's in the bottom of the pan? I would start there. Sounds like a fluid starvation issue. I like to eliminate the easy stuff first.

I cannot personally assist you with your issue, but other members of this Forum much more knowledgeable than me in this area will chime in.

Just curious if there’s any common problems I should check before calling the transmission shop.

There's lots of common problems associated with these units, including torque converter failure, pump pressure regulator valve wear, valve body check ball wear, TEHCM issues, etc however to what extent you can check to confirm/deny will depend on what you're willing to do and the tooling and equipment you have available to you...Given your symptoms can be either electrical/electronic or mechanical in terms of direct cause, I'd do the following:

1. Scan the ECM and TEHCM for transmission related diagnostic trouble codes and post the codes here, if any are set/stored
2. Conduct a line pressure test to see if the pump is making and sustaining proper line pressures in all range positions (park, reverse, neutral, drive and manual).

Let us know what you come up with for each and we can go from there.

Dropped the pan and changed filter after work today and surprisingly, it seems to have worked. Magnet was “furry” and there was a liitle bit of noticeable fine shavings in pan but nothing crazy and filter was pretty bad. Drove it around for 15-20 minutes afterwards, without any issues. Idk, I’m hesitant. Things don’t usually go so easily for me.

Having same exact issues and everyone just wants me to replace or rebuild trans..2011 yukon denali 90k miles..shifts/drives beautifully..2 days ago I come to a light to make a left (never had to stop the light changed to green) slowed down and in middle of turn the truck would just accelerate when pressing gas pedal and wouldn't move. Coasted to the shoulder, turned off/on put it in drive and it would go a couple feet then accelerate only and shifted itself to neutral..after few tries I put it in manual and it drove perfect..parked it and towed it home. Mechanic drove it yesterday and it did same thing in drive after few seconds it would go into neutral and accelerate, he would release gas pedal and it would go back into drive just fine by itself..he put it in manual and drove it for a while all gears shifted perfectly no problems in manual. Im not ready to drop 5k+ into this so wondering if we should try the filter. I just bought this in March so unsure of history but the car is mint well taken care of. Thanks for your help

Im skeptical because there were no issues prior to this, been driving it since March, mechanic says trans is not the issue then next day it is..I mean obviously its something within but im not convinced I need a whole trans
