Had similar thing happen with a '77 Monte Carlo my dad purchased new in December of '76. Went to change the oil & filter after the first 500 miles and the factory AC oil filter wouldn't budge! My cheapo band wrench broke before just beginning to deform the filter shell. Proceeded to pound a...
J - Plugs were probably over-torqued, or the threads seized to the aluminum threads in the head, shearing them off when taken out.
Did you use a dab of anti-seize on the plug threads before installing? I always do and have never had stripped threads, nor had any plugs come loose.
If you've...
My money would be on the e-Bay replacement being bad. If it's china-made, not likely the replacement will be much better.
Seeing as it works for awhile, your work is probably fine.
Best option is new GM, but I'm rather certain they're BIG bucks.
A good alternate would be to pull a used OEM...
At 67 I have the same problem with my arms getting scraped up much easier then when my skin was newer. Being on blood thinners makes it worse, as the small blood vessels bleed much more easily even from minor scrapes/abrasions. Started using slip-on sleeves w/kevlar that protect my arms.. they...
FWIW - Changed the valve cover gaskets this past weekend. Driver's side was starting to leak at the rear of the head. Unbelievable how clean the underside of the valve covers and the exposed valvetrain were for 146K miles. Regular Mobil-1 oil changes certainly do prevent sludge or gum buildup...
2013 Tahoe 5.3, added a Range disabler around 70K, 146K on the clock now.
Change the oil/filter every 4K miles with Mobil-1, 5W-30 and a fresh Wix filter.
Have always done my own oil changes, good opportunity to spot leaks/drips.
She still runs great!
Replacing the three primary positive battery cables w/new GM parts... should be pretty easy, right?!
The cable that runs from the positive battery terminal to the underhood fuse panel requires the fuse panel be extracted as it connects to a conductive "finger" on the underside of the fuse...
I didn't need to pull the axles either... just kind of twisted old shoe assembly over axle to remove.
Easily slid the new parking brake shoe ass'y back over each axle to install.
Holding the two open ends of the parking brake shoe (one in each hand), gently pull the LH end towards yourself and...
I've always used the grey Permatex anti-seize from a tube on my motorcycles and on our '13 Tahoe 5.3 (all w/Aluminum heads). In 50 years have never had a problem with a loosened, stuck or damaged thread. My Honda Shadow 1100 m/c uses 4 NGK plugs and the prior owner installed them dry... I had...
They're probably charging for the often overlooked Muffler Bearing re-pack and Turn Signal fluid flush.
Both services are critical to dependable vehicle performance and longevity!
;)
PS: Like Smokin' Denali said: Run! Rip off!
Dorman now makes the 90 degree connectors out of aluminum:
P/N: 800-419HP

Having similar issue on my bride's 2013 Tahoe. Brand new emergency brake linings installed, but didn't realize there were adjusters at the end of each tappet to zero-out the pad to inner drum surface. Will give it a shot as there's virtually no parking brake action.
FWIW - What a POS/Cheap-O...
I've had very good results with the drilled and slotted Detroit Axle rotors/ceramic pads on my '08 Dodge RAM 1500.
Have had them for three years with no issues. Great performance, low dust and good, consistent stopping power.
The Zinc coating prevents corrosion on the unswept surfaces, keeping...
Thanks so much! Have never used AN fittings before, so the sizes and such are all Greek to me, but really like your setup. Already have ordered the two 90° Dorman elbows and 5' of Continental blue (high temp) 5/8" heater hose. Also ordered the two Dorman metal front heater tees -414HP and...
Rdezs - Awesome modification! Where did you get these aluminum fittings at? (what they are called?) Correct to assume they are 5/8"? Would love to order them and do this too. Thanks!
Worthy of adding a Sticky Thread here for the Dorman Metal Coolant Tee's:
Vehicles with rear heat use these Tee's, you need one of each:
#800-414HP
#800-413HP
Added 10/1/2025: Dorman metal fitting to replace the straight plastic fittings that plug onto the ends of the above Tee's...
Our 2013 LTZ w/139K miles has the exact same issue. Started out being an intermittent problem, then just stopped working all together.
Looked into procedure to replace the stalk ass'y and seeing as you need to pull the airbag out, going to leave it be (see below link).
It's not a mechanical...
Thanks! - Yes, other than transmission and diff rebuilds, I do most all of my own work.
In 139K miles this is the first time she's ever been stranded. I indeed do most all maintenance proactively.
Somehow, had never come across the shifter bushing issue in prior reads, so was surprised by it...
Got a call from my bride on Friday at lunchtime. She was at girlfriend's and when she went to return home, the shifter just moved up/down with no resistance whatsoever. Did some quick Google research and discovered it's another common issue. Was able to leave work and pickup a Dorman 14092...
I changed the LR Regulator on my bride's 2013 Tahoe with a Dorman replacement several years back and it's worked fine so far.
The white nylon/plastic on the OEM unit became brittle and shattered. The Dorman unit has a L/T warranty too.
FWIW - Have also replaced all four outer door handles one...
