Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

You know, sometimes when someone says something out loud it kinda hits you… I recall that this thing sounded shouty with the factory speakers too, but in my head I figured it was probably caused by the rotted surrounds… I’m not 100% happy with the way this head unit interacts with my phone when...

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

The 9v battery trick works too, but don’t hold the wires on, just tap them…

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

I feel like this is going to get confusing. I am pretty sure my issue is poor quality speakers, I don’t think I need further assistance with that, I just have to find better speakers that fit my budget. Let’s just focus on the new guy’s rear speaker issue now… I would start at the rear...

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

Original Poster here coming back to the original topic… my truck definitely sounds better with the factory amp bypassed, but there’s still a definite peak in the upper midrange. It’s still a bit shouty. I’m thinking it’s got to be the cheapo speakers. I’ve played around with the eq settings a...

Finally decided to diagnose my 4x4 issue… uh oh…

Well, I tried to pull the actuator out today, but I forgot about First Compressions 9.5:1- what GM has put together let no man take apart… I tried all kinds of pliers, and even pulled the skid plate off to get a straight shot, but it won’t budge…

Finally decided to diagnose my 4x4 issue… uh oh…

Might not have time to pull the actuator until the weekend, but when I do I will post the results…

Finally decided to diagnose my 4x4 issue… uh oh…

Thanks for the quick reply! 2001 Tahoe, 5.3, “Auto” t-case. I will have to update my signature… Encoder is the one on the T-case, actuator is on the axle. I am 100% sure that the case is locking in. I can spin the front driveshaft in 2HI with one front wheel off the ground (KOEO) and I can’t...

Finally decided to diagnose my 4x4 issue… uh oh…

So… I’ve known for a while that my 4x4 doesn’t work. I finally got around to trying to figure out why… The button lights up the way it should, there’s no “service 4wd” light, and I can hear the encoder motor on the t-case. Next I jacked up a front wheel and hit the 4HI button and confirmed...

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

Just finished bypassing the factory amp, first impression: sounds much better!

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

Too dark to get decent pics tonight… Just in case it helps anyone my truck had the UP0 radio with UK6 rear controls and the UQ3 speaker system…

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

I’ve played with the settings in the head unit, and it helped some, but it still doesn’t sound great. I was under the impression that there was still an amp in the non-Bose trucks, something has to be crossing over and driving the factory sub… I’ll definitely grab some pictures for you… I know...

Why does it shout at me? (Thoughts on the stereo system)

I’ve got an 01 Tahoe that doesn’t sound all that great. Here’s the story: non-Bose system, previous owner installed a JVC R540 head unit. Sounded pretty rough, peak in the upper mids, no bass from door speakers, and they rattled. Factory sub worked fine. Yanked the door panels and found factory...

    Fuel pump check valve

Sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator to me. You can’t put a check valve in the return line. It needs to be unrestricted to allow the fuel from the regulator to return to the tank. If the fuel pressure drops with the truck off but holds with the return line blocked that means that the...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Technically last week, but I replaced the fuel lines on my Tahoe, and today I sealed the rear diff cover. I’ve noticed a few spots of gear oil in the driveway lately, found a relatively new cover with a few loose bolts…

Feels lazy off the line… torque management?

I do plan on giving it a tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc…). I don’t know the maintenance history, but it has all the signs of being well maintained… I looked up the stock 5.3 torque curve and it seems to fit with what I’m feeling… Definitely doesn’t feel like plugged cats, and it’s not...

Feels lazy off the line… torque management?

It has 3.73’s. Relatively recent purchase, I haven’t put a lot of miles on it yet, but the performance has been the same as long as I’ve had it. It does have just over 200,000 on the odometer…

Feels lazy off the line… torque management?

I took an opportunity to get out of turning wrenches for a living a couple years ago so I don’t have access to a scan tool anymore… I’ve thought about getting a Bluetooth OBD adapter and an app for my iPhone but haven’t done it yet… It doesn’t feel like anything is wrong, there’s no stumble or...

Feels lazy off the line… torque management?

‘01 Tahoe, LM7 5.3. Stock except for a flowmaster, intake tube resonator delete, and windowed air box. No codes, idles perfectly smooth. Just doesn’t pull off the line but wakes up around 3k rpm or so… almost acts like it’s got too big of a cam except for the super smooth idle. If I’m doing...

I expected it to work for me too, since the front wheels would be pulling… I suppose I should check to see if my 4x4 is engaging…

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Changed my oil! Isn’t that exciting? Couldn’t get it to climb the ramps (would get about halfway up then spit the ramps out even in 4x4) so I had to jack it up and put it on stands to get under it… I think the garage floor is just too smooth to keep the ramps in place… I miss my 84 Sierra 4x4...
