An update, my wifes about 3,000 miles into the new transmission and all is good but the front main seal is leaking pretty good. She said the transmission hit 220 when she was driving to visit her mom in Oregon. I called the transmission shop and they asked me to drop it off. 2 days later they...
Bilstein make some darn good shocks that completely change the ride. I put a set of 5100s on Tahoe 6 years ago and put then on my suburban a few months ago. Turned both of them from boats into what I describe as "on rails" just a very confidence inspiring driving experience and they eat up bumps...
That's interesting. The setup is pretty straight forward, with the rough country shocks the ride height is dictated by the height of the springs, if you went through 2 sets of rear springs and the problem persists I imagine you would have noticed anything wrong back there. How does the front look?
I identified a loose lower balljoint and at 190,000 miles I figured it would be good to refresh it while I was in there.
I opted to press in new lower balljoints because in my experience the lower control arm bushings are usually fine and I wanted to save some money.
I have aluminum suspension...
Thanks guys. I used Moog CK on my 08 Tahoe and things didn’t last long, about 3-4 years. Now I’m running mevotech TTX and timken bearings on the Tahoe.
Since making this post I did some research and settled for the brass moog lower balljoints and mevotech (non ttx) upper control arms, and then...
Had my 2015 suburban a few months now and it’s always had a shake but could never detect the cause. Today I jacked up the driver side wheel and found all kinds of lower balljoint play.
Now I believe I have aluminum control arms and knuckles, are the lower balljoints replaceable or do I need to...
Posted an updated to the situation in my build thread: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/dustin-jacksons-2008-chevy-tahoe-build-thread.144315/page-3
Hey quys, quick update. In September my wifes Civic was totaled so I bought myself a 2015 Suburban at the beginning of October and my wife has been daily driving the Tahoe now.
At 213,000 miles my wife got home and said that the transmission said it was overheating and wasn't shifting right. I...
Those are goofy load assist shocks that people put on their SUVs when the air system fails or when they sag too much when towing. It’s the wrong way to accomplish a goal in my opinion.
@SpareParts On mine I also wasn't able to get the knuckle assembly down far enough to fit in the lower spacer
@blondie70 I told you to not use the pickle fork lol happy you got it done!
@thefrey Because the front and rear covers are part of the oil pan sealing situation I was never sure which to install first. How was aligning the front cover with the oil pan in place, or did you loosen the oil pan?
One time I tried removing a jeep 4.0 motor from a cherokee without removing the front grill and I wasted so much time and bashed things around in the engine bay and turns out it was only 6 screws to remove the front grill and gave me all the space in the world. I learned something that day
@thefrey I hear you man but it's really not that bad, you just need to get the water pump off which is just coolant hoses, belt, and 6 bolts. After that you just need to remove the harmonic balancer and then you can remove the cover. The harmonic balancer is what I consider to be the hardest...
@thefrey I haven't gotten around to doing it but since the cover is how you adjust the placement I would take it all off and do it right. Get the cover cleaned up with a new seal and get it centered using the proper tool. Make sure you lube up the seal so when you put everything back together...
