the axle have spring clips on them. Some times they fall apart. most of the time i just throw my hub puller on and slide hammer the bish out.
4wd stuff will just fall apart because the axle is 2 pieces. AWD is one solid axle on that side.
for towing, just keep an eye on trans and coolant temps, i run a bluetooth dongle and just set my phone up to show a bunch of PID
make sure all fluids are topped off and brakes are in good order.
i have rebuilt a TON of front differentials. I have always used RTV ultra grey on both the case halves and pass side axle tube. I have yet to have one come back for a leak due to RTV.
i just re-geared a cast iron 7.2ifs unit last week for a lifted v8 swapped S10.
I have rebuilt and resealed...
I have built enough front diffs to knows its impossible to set them up correctly without the proper tool. You do more than just adjust backlash. You are also setting carrier bearing preload with the tool. Thats the most critical measurement there, seeing as how most of these are rebuilt due to...
i got a new set of running boards from car-part.com i want to say it was 150 for the set. some one backed into me and busted my drivers side running board. i had to buy the par from the yard, but it was decent priced.

quad highs. This is highs on the projectors and LED high beam bulbs on at the same time.
sorry, but i didnt take any pictures of the assembly. but i can answer any questions you have.
i will say this. i installed the extra bearing to do my backlash adjustment. the tool i got to adjust backlash was made to fit that bearing. with out the bearing in the adjuster, the tool wanted to slip out. so i tapped the bearing in, adjusted backlash then pulled it back out with a slide hammer.
I also vote to check tcase fluid.
A stretched chain usually sounds a bit more rattly. But it does not hurt to check the fluid and see whats going on inside.
You can also check the trans dipstick. Wipe it on a rag and see if there is a any metal on the stick. Most will stick to the magnet in...
Got my projector retrofit completed on my denali. Took me a while to track down some new adjusters as mine were seized and the headlights needed adjusted
