My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

Sorry for the delay. Absolutely love it. Soooo nice not to have to worry every time when I get into the gas. Still absolutely recommend it.

I really don't want to think about it but I will take a swing at this off the top of my head: $2300 trans $800 Circle D 3000-3200 Torque Converter with Billet, $100+ for the wire harness, $100+ for the flexplate $100+ for the front drive shaft $100 to have rear drive shaft shortened $50...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

Yes. Definitely noticeable. Mostly first gear. It should definitely not be a deal breaker if you are planning a swap. The peace of mind alone makes me still very glad I did the swap. It's not a big enough deal to make me want to change my rear gear or get one of those stand alone trans...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

Sorry for the delay in my response, I've been out of town a lot lately and have not touched the truck in a week. The answer is - I'm not sure yet. I think I have a vacuum or exhaust leak because the truck is running lean. I hope to have a chance to hunt down the leaks today and actually get...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

It's IN. IT RUNS!!!!!!! HP Tuners makes the segment swap super easy! I performed the "shift learn" process recommended by the company that sold it to me up on the lift. (No leaks). Then I took it out for a rather gentle test drive. I had a couple of drops of trans fluid that are falling...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

I tried torquing to spec. Still leaked. Tried loosening them some, still leaked. Tried torquing to speck, still leaked. Tightened a little more, still leaked. Then I called the company that I bought the 4L80e from - without hesitation, they are sending me another pan and gasket no...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

Well, .... I had everything on and filled it with ATF. Instead of turning the key and celebrating a running truck, I was greeted with this: Should I drain it, take the pan off, replace the gasket and reassemble, or is there an easier fix?

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

So I took my skirt off, quit cryin' and ran a M8x1.25 tap into the holes and got the M8x1.25 bolts to work. The rest of the day went amazingly well: Bracket: Trans oil lines Starter: Front Drive Shaft / Headers / Bell Housing Bottom Cover: Rear Driveshaft: I think I can...

The bracket that holds the shift control cable came. Now I realize I don't have the right fasteners for it. Anyone have a clue what to use?

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

.... It's the DETAILS that slow you down! I was able to get the NSS on easily (which I promptly removed because I needed access to the oil port and front speed sensor). After removing it, I put on the front speed sensor (from the kit I bought) and my trans oil temp sensor. And then I...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

It's in. I'm not saying this is how it should be done, but this is what finally worked for me. I took the transfer case adapter off so I could get the transfer case studs up and far back enough to put the transfer case adapter back on. It wasn't easy, but with a lot of back and forth and back...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

I hit a bit of a wall. I can't get the transfer case to mate with the output shaft on the 4L80e. Even took the transfer case adapter off and the transfer case cant go further back because it hits the tortion bar (see photo) and I can't seem make it go up any. Exhausted from wrestling with...

My 4L60e to 4L80e Swap Journal:

12/5/2019 UPDATE: Tranny is mated with the engine: Lessons learned during this step: 1. If you take the front wheels and the plastic guard off, you get easy access to the bell housing bolts on the sides and top (I had already taken my headers off). 2. If you buy a 4L80e, It will not come...

Because all applications are a bit different, I thought I would share my progress in an effort to … 1. Make sure I’m on the right track, and 2. To try to help other’s wishing to do the same with similar applications. I have been consolidating all the info I obtained from dozens of different...

    Basics on Increasing Horsepower

Here's my first attempt at an article for TYF.... In a very general sense, our engines are nothing more than large air pumps. They suck in air (intake), mix it with fuel and spark to generate power in the combustion chamber, burn it, and spit the bad stuff out the (exhaust) tailpipe. The...

    Hello From Charlotte, NC

Tony - I hear you loud and clear! Sometimes a break is just what you need. We got a massive storm here in Charlotte last night. Almost a full half inch of snow! Be safe when it gets up north to you!

    Hello From Charlotte, NC

Tony - I have a Black Bear tune in the works. I am baffled that you are having such issues with 1 3/4. I think i read somewhere else where you've already checked your engine mounts. Forgive me if you already answered this but, have you had a shop look at it to see if they can work any magic...

    Hello From Charlotte, NC

Yes, mine is a 4wd. Are you running 1 3/4 or 1 7/8? Mine are 1 3/4 and here is the clearance: Check it out in "full view" to really see how close it is! Mine just barely clears. I can see where if you are trying to run 1 7/8 it would be touching.

    Hello From Charlotte, NC

Hey Everyone! My name is Steve and I live just outside of Charlotte, NC. I have an ’02 Tahoe that I drove off the lot in Oct, 2001. During this time, I also owned a ’67 Chevelle. The Chevelle was taking up residence in the garage until February 2016 when, after 15 years of owning it, I got an...

    Speed engineering long tubes

I just installed these on my 02 Tahoe. I recorded every step of the process on video, and show my fitment issues. I'm new here, so I am not sure about the rules on posting videos, but let me know and i can post the link to the YouTube vids if it is ok.
