Looking for a recommended 9006 low beam halogen headlight bulb to swap into my 97 Tahoe . I actually don't recall ever changing out the OEM bulbs in 25 years believe it or not and light projection down the road at night is just not very good anymore. I did repolish the lenses so I don't...
I did look at what I thought were those T's going into the firewall. I will look more closely at them tomorrow. I do recall 10 or so years ago they were replaced as they were leaking at the time. Looking back through my maintenance notes I found that we have replaced the water pump at 95,000...
With 286,000 miles on the engine, I am leaning toward the theory presented of an internal coolant leak. There is no external leak that I can see or smell. In fact now I wonder if I needed a water pump as that was GMC's diagnosis back in September, that the weep holes on the pump had signs of...
Before start up and cold I added about 1/2 gal Dex-Cool (50/50) up to the Full Line on the reservoir, started the engine and after about 30 seconds it had drawn down the coolant in the reservoir well below the Full Line. I shut off the engine and added the remainder of the 1 gal Dex-Cool and...
I welcome all suggestions. I believe I will take the advice of adding coolant and go with the theory that air was in the system from the Sept water pump replacement. Then I will keep an eye on the level routinely to see if it declines. I would welcome recommendations on coolant to add assuming...
Checked coolant level. That is it. Very low. Must be losing coolant somewhere as the water pump was replaced by GMC in September and coolant topped off at that time.
Back again with 2005 Tahoe issues. When we are warming up the car before driving during these cold mornings in NC, the heater is blowing cold air even though the temp gauge shows the engine is warm. Not until we start driving does warm air start flowing from the vents. In addition to this the...
Again, great insight. After all the work GMC did to address this issue described earlier, we started having some issues with stalling and rough running plus our Tighten Gas Cap message continued when first starting up. Two codes were picked up, one indicating a malfunctioning fuel tank pressure...
Turns out the charcoal canister was filled with fuel so it was replaced as well as the valve solenoid. They credited me for the purge valve replacement so all 3 are now new. We'll know if this solved the issue when we fill up next. No more "Tighten Gas Cap" message so at least that is a positive.
yes it does scream blockage. When we picked up the Tahoe after the purge valve was replaced we still say the Tighten Gas Cap message. It is back at GMC today for further diagnosis. I called them and alerted them to the smoking gun likely being a clogged charcoal canister and/or faulty...
Great feedback, thanks. Our 05 Tahoe is back @ GMC and they will try to isolate the problem. Part # 12581282 was changed. We also get the "Tighten Fuel Cap" error message which seems unusual as it is tight and was replaced by GMC 1 yr ago on an earlier service. This message only appeared after...
We are now having difficulty actually filling the fuel tank in our 05 Tahoe. The fuel nozzle from the gas station (any gas station) continues to kick off when we have it locked to fill, even on the slowest setting. Even if we manually hold the handle and try to fill after a gallon or so it...
Thanks for that feedback. Putting trans fluid into the oil seemed unconventional to me. Nevertheless, once I changed out the valve cover/PCV to the new design the blue smoke upon startup has not returned. We'll see if this is sustained.
So far no blue smoke from the tail pipe at start up or anytime thereafter. Can the forum members assisting me with this post help me find the correct AC/Delco part number for the hose that comes out of the PCV valve and feeds over and into the top of the engine? This is a 5.3L 2005 Tahoe, VIN...
Replaced the left side valve cover (built in PCV valve) as recommended with the updated design-valve cover GM Part # 12570427. Pictures of the old valve cover shown here. Quite a bit of buildup at the drain openings which probably allowed oil mist to move through the PCV valve. We'll see if...
We just completed a round trip drive between NC and FL running 10 straight hours in both directions at 75mph+ in our 2005 Tahoe (5.3L) . We have 270,000+ miles on the engine and it still runs great but historically uses more oil than normal. No oil leaks anywhere. Before the 1st 700 mile...
Just installed the ACDelco alternator part # 335-1068 GM#88877278 (105A). Once I had the old one out it thanked me. The bearings were shot and it made lots of noise with a simple rotation of the pulley. The new one is silent. THANKS EVERYONE WHO ENCOURAGED ME TO TACKLE THIS MYSELF AND GUIDE...
Looks like we have the same radiator. Looks like you have a brass bolt so maybe the fluid is very slowly working itself up the threads. If you replace the with bolt with SharkBite PEX 3/4" brass plug it may solve that issue. The PEX plug has 3 ribs so it is not threaded. I suspect the clamp...
Brass fitting has 3 ribs on it so the clamp is over the top of the ribs. It is actually a brass end cap designed for PEX, 3/4 inch so it fits well inside the 5/8 heater hose.
