    New guy here subwoofer question

Internet doesn't tell you everything like you'd hope it would. Yup, you'll make some snippy comment on how you're better than everybody else, try to discount everything I say, and call it a victory. You seem to think nothing can be an "off the shelf" part and be good. So you completely...

    New guy here subwoofer question

You seem to know an aweful lot about my company for knowing nothing about me, or my company. I wasn't aware tooling my own parts was "off the shelf". Well, I guess they were on a shelf at some point. What if I told you I used the same parts as Scan Speak? Would their parts sound better? Who...

    New guy here subwoofer question

Well the thread as a whole derailed a long time ago. But in reference to where I was headed with that, since you do have an RTA you can show everybody how you designed a box using simulation software, then took that to your RTA and it shows EXACTLY what the graph does. That's what you've been...

Do you own an RTA? Why do I get the feeling you've paid somebody for graphs in the past.

    New guy here subwoofer question

You're tuning two totally different things. If you have a smart phone and $35 you can read all OBD2 data, and that data doesn't change. Vehicle dynamics change depending on pressure and temperature, and furthermore, you have to do a lot more to get a reading on top of having an RTA to compare...

    New guy here subwoofer question

So where is it exactly that you get all the data on the vehicle to plug in? You find the database with all your transfer function data at the SPL you're achieving? After all, the dynamics of the vehicle change with output. Your overall response in the vehicle changes with pressure. So...

You apparently don't understand sarcasm either. I am open to learning, but what's being said isn't learning, it's things I learned are wrong a decade ago. I'm putting effort into educating, so people don't think those programs give real results.

I'm sorry I understand audio and don't try to justify things to myself with graphs, and it offends people. I'm at the point now, I build a box to a car, then build a sub to the box.

    SWAG 6.5" coaxials

It's possible to get a market share against those companies, but it would be rough. You can prove a product is as good or better, but if that price isn't the same or just as high, they won't buy into it as such. There is another forum I have a section on that was all about Kicker, Kicker...

    SWAG 6.5" coaxials

I thought about that with a few markets actually, I just don't have the time to try to maintain more places and I'm sure the second it's apparent I'm pushing my own stuff they'll put the banhammer on that.

It won't show you anything accurate, which is the point of it. What it would model would be as close as me drawing on paper saying "it will look like this". I literally have a better idea of how something is going to sound by taking a sub and building a box out of my head than what would...

    New guy here subwoofer question

If it's crazy and ineffective, why have I been so successful doing it for the last 10+ years? You can model things I know the exact results of and it's VERY different. Perfect example, my van. Plug everything in and model it, it shows about 2 dB gain at 34 hz. What does it actually do? Well...

The real answer? That has to do with Xmax, cone area, and motor force. The generic answer, 10-15 sq in of port per cu. ft.

If a smaller box was more peaky (within reason on size) then the port was too big.

    New guy here subwoofer question

You probably won't have as much output, but you never know till you try. Often a result of leveling response is a loss of output (because it was peaky before).

    New guy here subwoofer question

There is no accurate way to simulate, at least not with resources you have available. You have to go purely off of experience for any real accuracy. You know you go on the large side and it's peaky, and we know a smaller box won't be as peaky, so that says you should make the box smaller to...

    New guy here subwoofer question

It sounds like all the boxes you've had were too large. When you tune as low as you are, most subs aren't designed to thrive down low, so it will level it out. Alternatively, a smaller box will level it out with a higher tuning. I don't use an EQ, or DSP, or anything else either. My truck...

    New guy here subwoofer question

First thing to know, WinISD is wrong. If you're experiencing peaky above that, you have one of 2 things going on. You're dealing with the wrong subs, or right above that is the transfer function of the vehicle and getting beyond that point should drop off a good bit. It's also possible that...

It's not that they won't work, just not optimal. The box requirement is large, and IB only works in certain vehicles. Additionally, it's the kind of sub you want tuned low. Unless the music is altered, you aren't playing 20 hz. For most people, below a 30 hz tune is not in their best interest.

Yeah, it's not great for automotive, wasn't meant to be. Obviously it's intended to have flat range from the 20's on up. I'd thought about doing one in my home theater, I'm using a 12 year old Adire Tempest still!

I could probably sell one, we never talked about the home side since I have an automotive website. I haven't used one, from what I understand they're incredible at that price point.

I sell those, the issue I see is the bump out. It looks to be more than an inch back, so a BM wouldn't go. Widening it looks sketchy too.

    SWAG 6.5" coaxials

Back in late March I introduced a new 6.5" coaxial called "SWAG". It's a marine grade speaker, tested for salt water and UV rays, but also suitable for automotive. The reviews over the last 2 months all have similar attributes: very loud, very clean, incredible build quality, and plenty of...
