Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Thought I would provide an update with the solution to my problem. Many thanks to everyone who provided input! It took a long time to get my Tech2 back, then with the holidays in the mix everything got super busy. Since there weren't any noticeable drivability issues (outside of starting...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Also to consider is that if it were the PCV valve, and if it was connected at the plenum, then it seems like it would provide these vapors to the intake when starting at times other than just after refueling.

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Yes, yes, I'm on it. For the 1st and 3rd I need to get my Tech2 back and that's going to take a bit of time. However, the canister inspection can be done as soon as time permits.

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

I'm sure how it applies to my thread. Answer: It doesn't! LOL. :) If it were water in my tank, then I would be having issues every time the vehicle sat for a bit and was restarted. Furthermore, if there was a large amount of water it wouldn't start, or run. This vehicle is used often and...

    Help With Part Number Please

Ok, got the part number for the insulator (#7 in the diagram below). It's 89017369 and is in a kit with the mounting bolt.

Totally get it and appreciate you mentioning it just in case!

    Help With Part Number Please

Originally slim because there is an o-ring on the bottom of the valve that seals it and it's in great shape and has plenty of sealing capability. HOWEVER, I too thought the same thing which is why I kept it on my buddies purge valve when doing the swap. Thus, it's now on my vehicle and the same...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Your welcome, thanks for taking it so seriously and spending so much time! I too thought that the purge valve, vent valve, and canister had been eliminated as the problem(s), but, I believe it was you who mentioned the canister possibly being out of charcoal. This got me thinking... what if it...

    Help With Part Number Please

Thanks to everyone. Was worried about needing to get a part number from the factory. Junkyard was the first thing that came to my mind as well. There is one about 10 miles from me, and it's used on so many different vehicles that it shouldn't be hard to find. As a last resort, I can jimmy up...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Easy enough to check the rail pressure so I will, but keep in mind that if I prevent the purge valve from opening (by removing the electrical connector) this problem disappears. I could probably keep running like this forever (with a resistor across the wires to simulate a connected solenoid)...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Ahhhh, right. I have a Tech2 but recently loaned it out after not needing it for a long time. I'll have to work on getting it back sooner than later! These are the same tests that are run automatically and it passes them, but I like the idea of doing them manually too.

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Yes, I have. It runs just fine I don't notice it stumbling while filling, but it's been awhile and I can do it again. Lost me on the second part. Do you want me to remove the gas cap and let it sit overnight, or remove it and do a warm restart, or remove it while driving? I haven't tried any of...

    Help With Part Number Please

Hello, I need the rubber, or maybe silicone, piece that is fitted to the bottom of the purge valve in my 2004 Tahoe 5.3L (gasoline) SUV. The valve itself is part number 12581282, but the gasket (or whatever it's called) is separate. These purge valves were used in many model makes and years with...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

I did the swap and will update below. NOT ALL warm restarts! It warm restarts just fine as long as I haven't just gotten gas. I loaned out my Tech2 so I can't see fuel trims right now (well unless I go to Autozone and see if they'll do it for me). UPDATE: I swapped out the purge valve and the...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

During the swap, I noticed that mine is missing a rubber (maybe silicone?) piece that fits under the solenoid. It only removes play, does not affect performance. Mine seemed too loose so I had previously added a couple of washers. Now I see it's missing a part. Anyone know the part number for...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Not really. The engine runs fantastic at all times except just after getting gas. Doesn't need to be a full tank (and often isn't). Happens after adding just a few gallons regardless of the level prior to filling. Tank is NEVER overfilled. Definitely not plugged with charcoal as I have manually...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Understood, makes sense. Even worse (to your point) I have already removed & replaced mine like three times for testing. The good news is that it is a 1 minute procedure so, thankfully, there isn't much time wasted. My buddy said I can have at his Suburban so I'll swing by his house on the way...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Not overfilled. It happens even if I'm at 1/4 tank and only add 5 gallons. So, if the charcoal canister is empty, this will happen? Thanks, but the purge valve is closed with key off (as it should be). Additional proof can be found by me filling it up with both the vapor line and the...

Tahoe won't restart after getting gas - Not the usual issue

Posted this elsewhere, but it was suggested I post it here... 2004 Tahoe 5.3L 4wd. Vehicle runs great at all times except after getting gas. When I attempt to restart after filling up, it stumbles, sputters, and dies. Only way to start (without getting under the hood, see below) is to hold the...
