    Consensus on Cold Oil Changes

Hot oil changes are an old wives tale. Sludge sticks to the pan, it doesn't float around in the oil. And if it did, the filter is supposed to catch it. I've been doing cold oil changes for about the last 30 years and run most of my vehicles to about 300K, no problems.

    Sold my new tahoe

I guess I don't understand the problem. I usually one or two calls a day offering an extended warranty on my vehicles--and they don't even know what they are!

    110,000 mile service

Wow! You can easily get to 200K without doing most of that. Alternator & heater hoses/fittings at 150K and you're good. Oil lines? What oil lines? Wanna buy some oceanfront property? I've got some in Arizona...

May buy 05 Yukon - what should I look for?

Well, I did it! I jinxed myself. Two days after posting this, the heater hose fitting blew on my 2009 Tahoe (about 185K). Fortunately, I was on my way to the water place and realized the problem about 2 blocks from it. I stopped to see what was going on and let it cool for a minute, then...

What Is The Contraption Above The Oil Filter???

Wasn't there a recall on this? I remember one about oil spraying onto the exhaust causing a fire or something like that.

    Perfect timing...

I've had several water pump leaks in recent years, every one of them was the paper gasket. Replacements all came with rubber gaskets. I don't know why GM won't make the switch (well, yes I do--it would cost them a nickel more).

At what mileage should I considering trading in my Tahoe??

I usually buy them with 80K to 100K, sell them when they get well over 300K.

May buy 05 Yukon - what should I look for?

I've got a 2000 4x4 Suburban that has given me few problems (there, I just jinxed myself). In it's 286K miles, it has had a few sensors fail, the window lift mechanisms have broken, and the rear crankshaft seal has leaked badly. Mine was totaled by the insurance company due to hail damage. I...

    Ouch!

My 2009 Tahoe has had the rear bumper cover hit FIVE TIMES! After the first time, I took it to a body shop and was told it would be $1400 if I used insurance, $1000 if I paid for it myself. I have $1000 deductible insurance, so I bought a new bumper cover and paint and did it myself. It was...

    Paint protectant

Is there anything that will protect the clear coat from peeling from exposure to ultraviolet? I live in an area that has extremely high UV levels. It's not unusual to see vehicles that have the clear coat peeling off of one side, that being the side that is usually parked on the south or...

Trouble With Key Fob On 2000 Suburban

Thanks, slypher25aussie! I'll give them a try. One thing that I noticed is that the ones that don't work have buttons on the circuit board, rather than the older carbon contacts.

Trouble With Key Fob On 2000 Suburban

The last ones I got stated they fit a 2000 - 2001 and had the labels on the buttons, but no luck. Do you happen to have a record of who you bought them from?

Trouble With Key Fob On 2000 Suburban

My original key fob for my 2000 Suburban died years ago and I bought replacements on Ebay. Got them paired with the vehicle and they worked fine for a few more years. One of them recently died and I ordered more from an Ebay vendor. They would not synch with the vehicle and I got a refund...

Need some input to ease my worries on a 2008 Tahoe z71

I use a nylon strap wrench from K-D Tools. I put filters on a little bit tighter than recommended, but since they aren't safety wired, I don't trust them. Airplanes use similar filters, but they have a torque spec and holes for safety wire. The strap wrench will easily remove & install the...

GM lying about fuel rating, or i drive it too hard?

Ethanol in the gasoline will measurably reduce fuel mileage. That said, you might have the dealer run diagnostics on it. I had three '95 Luminas as company vehicles. I drove them a lot, about 60K per year. I filled them up every day, drove the same routes, etc. I calculated the gas mileage...

Would this be a dumb idea?

I couldn't get my wife to do that at the boat ramp. One day she pulled the boat out of the water on a steep ramp, put it in park, then set the brake. After I finished strapping and draining the boat, she couldn't get it out of park. Neither could I. I finally slammed the gearshift lever with...

Strange Issues. Please help a brotha out.

I was driving along about 60 MPH in my 2014 Silverado when everything went to hell. As I remember, the engine slowed down or shut off, the transmission downshifted, and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. I pulled over and shut it off. When I re-started it, the Stabilitrac warning light...

    Advice on 2001 Suburban

I had a 2001 Suburban. Bought it to use for work. Transmission failed at about 90K. Changed jobs shortly after that and sold the 2001 to buy a 2000 4x4 Suburban. It has about 270K. The only major expense so far has been rear seal on the engine. It's had it's share of sensors, window tracks...

What is this Button? - Solved

It's not a factory switch. My 2000 Suburban has an identical switch that I was never able to figure out, although it was mounted to the outside of the instrument panel. I tried to follow the wires and it appeared to go to an aftermarket video player for the back seat, which I removed after it...
