    The symptoms don't point to the sunshell, if your sunshell breaks you basically disconnect the output shaft from the rear sun/planetary gear so that's not it, you would loose all gears except park. Its possible your filter fell out and there was enough connection between the pump and filter...

    If you spray them with some pam or other cooking spray they will most likely be reusable in the future if you take care of them. I've had the same set for years in another car.

    The issue is the baffling of that large hole (or lack there of vs what you got now) and the stock hole sizes. You can make them work, they will physically bolt on, you may need to find/change grommets, PCV routing, etc.

    Those won't work on your setup they are for Vortec heads only, they won't work on a TBI head. Since I have a Vortec swapped TBI you can send them to me and I'll put them to good use.

    Fuel pressure won't make it back fire thru the intake. Double check your timing and make sure you don't have a valve hanging open. Are you 100% sure it's backfiring thru the TBI and not popping thru the exhaust?? Check the ignition module while you are there, mine went out and was popping...

    If the filter was in the pan when you dropped it you were running that pump with out any fluid. My first rebuild I put in a deep pan and that happened, the filter fell out, pump went boom.

    You more then likely cracked a head. Those Vortec heads have a thing casting near the water jacket between where the 4/6 and 3/5 exhaust ports sit. If they are run for any amount of time with no water flow those jackets will vaporize the water and turn it to steam. It's game over at that...

    Checking fuel pressure is a good idea but it's not easy on a 95, you have to cut the fuel lines and put a pressure gauge inline or get one of those $$$ adapters. Check for vacuum leaks too while you are under there ... since you aren't sure if the initial issue was spark or fuel related you...

    If it's a TBI a Vortec long block swap will work but you'll need some other parts to make it work. I would rethink the rebuild, your 95 block will be drilled and tapped for a roller cam and it will have the internal cooling bypass provisions. That's the best of both worlds if you ask me ...
