    For anyone wondering. I finally got around to the steering rack and it solved 95% of the issue. Good enough for now. I suspect the lower steering shaft will need to eventually be addressed too. The boot on the U joint has been torn for years.

    Thanks for the input! I definitely looked for CPOs and very few came up. Locally we have close to no inventory new or used. We briefly considered new but couldn't justify the price.

    Take the caliper off of the carrier, pump the brakes a couple of times, then go take a look at the pistons. In my case one piston was extended about 70% more than the other.

    How do your sway bar links look? The last time I had banging going on when I hit bumps, especially speed bumps, that was the culprit. A $20 fix. Not sure if it applies to your situation, but it's worth a look.
