Keeping coolant and transmission temps under control when towing in the summer heat

Are you still running the transmission fluid through the radiator tank cooler, before sending it to the Tru-Cool 40K? I second the previous recommendation to route the transmission fluid to the Tru-Cool only, and keep it out of the radiator tank. This will restore some balance by not having...

Stuck far from home. Battery light came on, now Los of power.

Yep, Alternator & Battery are the things most likely to leave you stranded. That's why I'm a big fan of dual independent alternators & batteries. Easy to do it with these trucks...

    Metal in oil

Sorry to hear about this, hopefully it is something repairable without a rebuild. My first guess would be that it is something in valve train other than the timing chain. Pulling the valve covers might be the next step in diagnosis.

What Is The Best Radiator Available???

Yep. Mine is sealed tight. I used various thicknesses of closed cell foam rubber, long thick panels of reinforced rubber cut from a semi-truck mudflap, etc. Close it all up, you don't want hot air from the engine side making it's way back around into the inlet side of the radiator when at...

What Is The Best Radiator Available???

Second what kbuskill said above. Adding that I had both Mishimoto and Cold Case radiators sitting in my garage before I installed the Cold Case. The Mishimoto did have a restriction in the upper hose connection. However, it was obvious that it was not built for max possible cooling...

Two Mechmans, 2 Completely isolated batteries. One alternator per battery. Can switch either set in at any time, or even both at once. No, I'm not into car stereos :) just reliabilty.

    Charging system upgrade

Great info! Is there perfomance to be gained by just changing the one from a 5 blade to 7 blade fan? (or vice versa, depending on which moves more air)

    Charging system upgrade

For those of you going through batteries do to the GM programming the voltage so low that batteries die, and the vehicles stall ... There a are number of good ways around this. 1) As previously mentioned, disconnecting the 2 pin alternator connector tells the alternator to self-regulate to...

Keeping coolant and transmission temps under control when towing in the summer heat

Make sure you put a restriction in the small hose that goes from the top passenger side of the radiator to the surge tank. Otherwise you will get error messages. Including false hot engine, AC disabled actions. The stock radiator hose outlet is restricted, the cold case one is not.

Do our trucks have variable voltage at the alternator?

The RVC variable voltage control started in 2005. For those of you who 2005s & 2006s with RVC, there are good ways to get around that BS.

    Suburban 2500 transmission fluid clear

The Red color in transmission fluid is just a dye. It does fade away with time and temperature. Some fluid manufacturers may use dyes that are less permanent than others.

Want to make sure Im buying correct gear oil for differentials

I run Amsoil Synthetic Severe Gear 75W-140. You want to keep the lower number at 75, for great fluidity in cold temps. They've had a number of tests done showing their 75W-140s superior flow at cold temps, and yet they have high film strength at higher temps. Not to mention the lowest wear...

Want to make sure Im buying correct gear oil for differentials

Keep in mind that those thin oils are what they legally have to recommend, because that is what they used during EPA fuel ecomomy qualification tests. That recommendation is not at all based on what oil selection will give you maximum durability and life out of your axles.

    Awd not engaging

How does it behave if you turn stabilitrac off with the dash button? This should turn off the engine power cut back part of the traction control, and prevent it from abruptly cutting power.

Front Inner Fender Liner - Under hood Splash blocking

I decided to do something about the poorly designed inner fender liners that allow lots of road water to spray & splash into the engine compartment. Purchased a 36x36 sheet of 1/8" thick nylon reinforced rubber, and cut two splash shields from it. (started by making a cardboard template)...

    Oil catch can options

Yes. At full throttle, there is going to be close to zero vacuum in the intake manifold. So at full throttle, the crank case vapors will flow out of both valve covers, and oil vapor will come out of both. This is normal. Now how much oil vapor may be a question of how much blow by. In...

This is the longest available servo pin that I am aware of ( Sonnax 77787-02K ): https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2477-servo-pin-kit You can also put a washer between the end of the pin and the forth gear piston to get a little more. Viton Rubber servo piston seals will keep the fluid leaks to a...

    OEM Parts 2008 Tahoe

I've used most of the online GM OEM parts suppliers in the past. The one the has been by far the best for me the last 2 years is https://www.gmpartscenter.net/ For Non-GM and ACDelco Parts, Rock Auto is great.
