Before jumping to the torque converter being bad lets investigate things that would cause the TC to engage or disengage. Maybe the transmission is being commanded to exit/enter TC lockup?
This looks like a 07 4l60e
@shafner79 That sounds like a good plan. You won’t know the extent of the situation until you open the motor but if you can bide time until it’s more convenient I can respect that.
@shafner79 That's a common problem with this platform. Moving forward there are a few options in navigating the situation depending on your goals. The proper fix would be to open the top of the motor up and remove the parts of the AFM system and put the motor back together using non AFM parts...
Could move the plug, wire, and coil and see if it follows. It sounds like you are on the right track, at least it doesn't sound like a mechanical problem
Since the day I bought my Tahoe there has been a thud/clunk when turning left over uneven ground. Everything in the front has been replaced except for the steering rack and body mounts and the thud is still there to this day.
It seems to be coming from the front driver side area it could be...
@tjoyce81 Thats a hard thought. Because you didn’t neglect the timing chain you are punished for it… might have been better off neglecting it.
I put a new melling timing chain in mine a couple years ago knock on wood.
@Denali GMC 87 Sounds like a good rig. The oil pressure sending unit sounds interesting, I would take it for a nice long and hot test drive to make sure there are no oil pressure concerns that comes up.
Other than that you get what you see with these things. If it runs well and passes a...
Bad motor mounts would certainly make whatever is happening more noticeable. One way to check motor mounts is to gun the throttle really good from a stop and if you notice a thud or clunk that is probably your motor twisting under the hood because the motor mount has work and the engine is able...
@BG1988 Shouldn't be loose. There are 2 C mounts that hold it to the frame under the front doors and then there are links that hold it to the front bottom control arms, so a total of 4 mounting points.
Identify what parts have failed and remediate.
@bcbickers Like others have said, you said that you got a tune and a larger cam is the tune compensated for the cam?
You might just by hyper aware of sound of the engine. One of these engines in good condition WILL sound like a sewing machine and does make a lot of sound but that's normal. If...
@tjoyce81 I’ve heard of that being a concern but until now it was more of a legend, this is my first time seeing it. Glad I used the LS3 dampener
I look forward to seeing the rest of it
@Marky Dissod I have been looking all morning and I wasn't able to find one with the same lobe profile as the L33 cam that also has VVT, I wonder if someone else would know
@petethepug Gotcha, I have a mechanically AFM deleted 5.3 that has AFM tuned out with a Black Bear tune. Just wondering if I got bored enough if I could drop a 6.0 in or if I needed to do anything else.
I think the LMF is a 5.3 without AFM but they are not very common.
If you are going to pull the motor apart any 07-14 5.3 should work, you'll just need to delete the parts of it that you don't want, like AFM or VVT and keep the flex fuel injectors if you want to retain that feature.
