Worn band/3-4 clutch, gear train/shaft spines, valve body in that order of most likely to least likely. Another possibility is VSS but rare. Reviewing your symptoms its not likely to be solenoid related, otherwise you wouldn’t have normal, sequential upshift or downshifting. Swapping...

You can do either / or but I’d do neither. I’d rebuild / convert your original unit using a Circle D Level 2 or 3 kit along with other prudent upgrades (billet 1234 piston, six pinion 6L90 front planet, fully reconned/upgraded pump, weld reinforced 35R drum, etc) plus all new OEM...

    SOLVED: Lost 5&6th gears

I turned off my PMs as too many people were sending me messages w/questions that should be asked on the forums. Doing support via PM defeats the purpose of having such a forum in the first place. Can you start a new thread and tag me there or post the above questions in my 6L80 Information...

Shift solenoids A&B are identical so you can swap them between the 1-2 and 2-3 shift valve positions on the valve body. When you drop the pan, you'll have a much better idea as to whether solenoids will resolve the problems or not.

    SOLVED: Lost 5&6th gears

You're welcome. Nothing special insofar as preventative maintenance beyond what you already have scheduled, unless you want to get into the valve body, vacuum test it and install a Sonnax or Transgo VB kit and new spacer plate. You can also bench test the TEHCM at that time. Sometimes...

    SOLVED: Lost 5&6th gears

Sounds like the 456 clutch pack is burnt. Drop the pan, if you haven’t already done so. If there’s a bunch of burnt clutch material at the bottom, pull it for overhaul.

P0700 and P0709 codes on PPV Tahoe

Drop the pan and see if what’s at the bottom. If there’s a bunch of metal and/or burnt clutch material, put the pan back on with a few bolts and yank it for overhaul. At 207k it’s due…

    Transmission Temps??

My 6L80 in my truck runs between 185-210 in the summer; otherwise 145-165 when on the road for a while all other seasons. What temp did it typically run when it was functionally operating normally prior to the rebuild?

**(FIXED)** 2016 gmc Yukon 6l80 issues after rebuilding

It’s not super common but not super rare either. It happens often enough for me to mandate replacement on all overhauls. There are other builders who reuse them, citing low likelihood of them going bad (in the builder’s warranty period - the part left unsaid). I’d love to test that TEHCM - I...

**(FIXED)** 2016 gmc Yukon 6l80 issues after rebuilding

Glad you were able to get it fixed. I never reuse TEHCMs in my 6L builds, for that reason. Do you still have that bad TEHCM?
  13. NickTransmissions

**(FIXED)** 2016 gmc Yukon 6l80 issues after rebuilding

Did you replace the TEHCM? Thinking not since you mentioned replacing pressure switches (which is not possible to do-you a replace the diaphragms and seals, not the switches themselves). What were the vacuum test readings for the pump stator support and valve body castings? Did you machine...

Service 4WD, no power to wheels

Yes - it's called the transfer case encoder motor assembly. Inside of the motor there is a sensor, which often goes bad. The T-case motor's job is to shift the T-case in and out of gear (2H, 4H, 4L). If it goes bad a chassis DTC will set / store and you will lose transfer case functionality...

    Dexron III or Dexron VI?

Dex6 full synthetic or Dex/Merc (conventional) will work - brand is your choice.

    Dexron III or Dexron VI?

Ah, you’re correct. The 8 speed stuff is classed as “low viscosity”, not ultra low viscosity like the fluid for the 10-speeds. Wondering now if the LV fluid intended for 8Ls is formulated the same as the Mercon LV intended for Ford six-speeds (6R80, 140, etc). If so, it should be perfectly...

    Dexron III or Dexron VI?

Please let us know how you like the HP stuff in your 60E. I believe that fluid is ULV but otherwise have never had anyone provide first hand experience when retrofitting it to older units.

    Dexron III or Dexron VI?

I didn’t block you, specifically. I turned off my PMs as too many people were sending me messages asking questions that should be asked here on the forum. There is zero reason to send anyone PMs with tech questions as it’s completely redundant and defeats the purpose of having an open forum...

    2004 Yukon 4l60e

All things equal, falling out of 4th or no upshift to 4th is typical of failing 3/4 clutch pack, especially if there are no codes and no prior issues. Drop the pan and see what’s at the bottom. If the bottom is full of burnt clutch matter, put the pan back on with a few bolts and yank it for...
