    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

Point #1 is why we're having this conversation, because I'm pretty sure that is now a universally accepted fact, like how horrible of an idea it was for the Northstar to have a split crankcase (funny how the two's origins are shared, but not that I'm biased against whatever team of jack@$$es was...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

I DID do the lifter release (twice) and oil block, along with busting out the vlom seals to ensure there was no way the AFM lifters could pressurize again. Unfortunately by the time I did that, it was in response to #6 collapsing (ie too late). Had I known about the inner workings of the system...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

I call it the poor-man-tax. See, from a 10,000 ft level overview with an emergency financial cushion, a retirement account, maybe some stocks, a credit card with a couple grand in it for emergencies... yeah, the obvious answer is "do it right or just replace it". When you're...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

Explained in terms of "what" to do, but without any "why". "Why" matters. Does the AFM cam have different lift? Different duration? Different ramp? Different separation angle? Different centerlines? And whatever is different, how different is it? Enough to really matter? Based on...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

Because when folks A-M are saying "of course you have to replace all this stuff, you idiot" and guys M-Z are saying "you don't have to replace any of that, you moron", then the conversations don't really tell anyone anything! LOL It keeps floating back up because, at least everything i can...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

I think my head hurts, LOL. But that thread is the perfect example of why I posted my question in the first place. There was sooo much confidence in sooo many of those posts, but sooo many of the stated "facts" contradict others given with confidence, but no numbers given on either side to...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

So are you saying the software tweaks are a firm requirement as well?

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

Thanks for all the replies! So first and foremost, while I've always lived by the moto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it, modify it. If it is broke, fix it, then modify it", this old girl is a tool, not a toy. I'd prefer to keep the stock performance and mileage - well, truth be told, i'd prefer...

    AFM/DoD Delete Advice Needed

After a journey from hell, including a new longblock at 200k, an AFM delete dongle, a full software AFM block with the HP Tuner, a lifter release kit with oil passage block-off and valley gasket cutting, and then a repeat attempt at unsticking it, the #6 AFM lifter on my '07 5.3L with 330k miles...

Can The Water Pump Pulley Be Replaced?

LsHart, I genuinely appreciate the offer, but I'm good :). Not because I wouldn't do it, but because the original post was from October of 2024, and if I was still unemployed and the Tahoe was still dead, a water pump would be the least of my concerns, LOL. Don't get me wrong, the last 2 years...

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

For anyone who manages to be as stupid as me (I know, you have better odds of winning the lottery, LOL)... The grommeted bolts are NOT the same as their ugrommetted counterparts. The bolt itself is just about the same length, albeit with less lead-in, but the sleeve is longer with a larger...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

Boy am I glad ya'll talked me off the cliff of stupidity, LOL. I don't have my chicken scratch schematics in front of me, but from memory, the pinks were power feeds for the MAF, B2S1 and B2S2 O2 sensors, and one unknown circuit that I convinced myself to accept process of elimination for after...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

Those are the first pinouts I've seen for the ECU connectors on this truck. Thank you! With those pinouts, process of elimination using what I do know throught the harness and the 10 i can ID on the vehicle side, I bet this will get me to what the remaining 8 are for and which sets go together...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

I wish it were that simple... on all accounts, LOL. Those two ends were not connected. The harness shown on the ground is the "new" harness I got from a salvage yard on Friday. They told me it just had the 2 rear O2 sensors cut off of it, but made no mention of these 18. Unfortunately, in my...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

Fair enough, LOL. I get a D- for effort, but I had to tap out for the night. Just gonna have to resume in the morning. Still got a lot of parts to put back on... Here's the branch coming off the harness, branching off just before the passenger side ignition and injector section: And here's...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

Well, the wire nuts are just to be able to swap them around if something doesn't work. Once everything is working, I'll crimp the pins on and feed them.into the housing(s) with the rest. I just don't want to cook something... else. I THINK the black/whites are both grounds, which I think...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

I'm in the "home stretch" of this bite i shouldn't have tried to chew. These 18 wires are the last WTF I got ahead of me (unless I eff something else up before the finish line). Anyone have a feel for how risky it might be to wire nut the unknowns together and fire it up to see if anything's wonky?

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

I swear I'm in a permanent twilight zone... or, more likely, I'm just a total moron, LOL. I KNOW the smoke was pouring out of that hole, but on close inspection, the bolt holes are in fact walled off from the working side. Dang me for being so bleeping stupid, but thank you for the intelligent...

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

I guess that's possible if the correct bolts are there, which makes my stomach turn a little, but since my last valve cover hasn't quite gone back on yet... These are the two side-by-side.

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

Nope. That picture you show is a valve cover bolt and does have a grommet, but it's a different size bolt and different size/shape bolt...

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

I can actually say with confidence that this bolt holes are on the working side of the manifold, as pumping smoke through the throttle body hole causes it to billow out of the bolt hole without a bolt there :) So it's gotta have SOME kind of seal, right?

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

Son of a............. Ok, so two pre-sword-falling questions: 1. How do the flanges seal without the grommets? 2. Anyone know if I can just pop the grommets off and use these? Or anyone maybe have some hanging around they could measure the sleeve length on?

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

But is the 6.2 the same as the 5.3? That's well beyond my knowledge base...

    Need an Engine Wire Harness

Yup. The tears have now started to flow, LOL. The "new" harness has the 18 wires that go to the MAF, AC limit switches, and through to the firewall just cut off. "Great", I think, "I can just slap an 8-pin and a 12-pin Deutsch on there and connect new to old", i tell myself... Ha effing ha...

    Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

Now ya'll got me worried. Every set I've bought has had the grommets, and all of them claimed to be for my truck. BUT, there are several parts I've had to source for this truck that always bring me to '06 and older models, almost like '07 was a squishy transition year like the GMT100 to GMT400...
