Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

I have the BU60FHD in my 2012 and love it for towing. I have about 35K on it now and it's help up great so far. And I second the recommendation for the Blackbear tune for the 6L80. Amazing and will extend the service life, for sure. Note that the BU60FHD I have was built when the product line...

Help with towing numbers on a 1500 chassis

I agree on all points, and I'll add that the weak link of the 6L80 for towing is the torque converter (TC). So a person can go a long way toward increasing the reliability and durability of them by simply upgrading the TC to one that has a billet cover, stronger lockup clutch, and maybe a...

Help with towing numbers on a 1500 chassis

Or… you could do what some of us did and upgrade to a K2xx (2018, in my case) Suburban 3500 HD. It has the iron block L96 (no AFM), 6L90 transmission, Suburban 2500 frame but with 1-ton pickup suspension bits and running gear. But that truck did get you home so it deserves to be brought back to...

Towing Capacity - 2016 SLE with V-5 Receiver

That’s the standard hitch limit on these trucks, but that has nothing to do do with the rated tow capacity of the vehicle, which is limited by other factors such as engine cooling and transmission fluid cooling capacity, etc.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

Yes, they are hydraulic with vacuum assist. Normally, the engine intake creates enough vacuum to assist the brakes, but with AFM/DFM in some circumstances, it was not. So GM added a vacuum pump to create additional vacuum.

What did you do to your 2015-2020 K2XX Tahoe/Yukon Today?

But that’s what I’m saying. It *is* tuned for towing duty. It holds a higher gear as long as possible. When it downshifts it’s because it ain’t got no more ass to give without more RPMs.

Behavior after DOD swap and cam upgrade

I've had three GM large SUV's tuned by them and they did a great job, so that's my basis. One of those required three different tunes for three different cams, and they did each of them perfectly, such that they ran exactly as I'd asked for (.e.g lope, no lope, etc.). Part of the Blackbear...

Behavior after DOD swap and cam upgrade

This was not the case for my new cam startup tune from Blackbear. I suspect either a different cause or an error in the tune.

What did you do to your 2015-2020 K2XX Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Blackbear has tuned this one for me already, and I asked them to tune it for towing. It doesn't hunt, really. It's just that when the topography looks more like a sine way in profile than a pancake, it translates to downshifting every other mile as it has to keep speed on the climbs. If I run in...

Thoughts on '13 Denali with 153K miles...

Hard to say whether it would be worth it or not on a 160K 6L80, but I did make the investment on my 2012 when it had about 120K on it, and I'm glad I did. Total price out the door in 2021 was $1400 for a new TC (factory reman with upgraded billet cover, stronger lockup clutch, and a flanged...

Ah! That's helpful to know. Do you know of any place I can learn more about these overrun clutches in the 6L90? I'm learning new things every day!

4.10. It’s most comfortable in 5th, and can hold it up most mild-moderate grades, so I hold it there to keep it from hunting when we’re driving over the piedmont areas of the blue ridge. Lots of up/down on I-64 west of Richmond.

What did you do to your 2015-2020 K2XX Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Pulled the camper home from a fantastic weekend out in Crozet, VA. My wife and I and our daughter’s volleyball coach (also a fellow camper) had 6 teenage girls in tow on this trip, so there were plenty of laughs and a little drama. :p Managed around 8.5 mpg in the Suburban 3500, pulling 7,500...

Thoughts on '13 Denali with 153K miles...

Congrats on the ride! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. On the transmission, it will start misbehaving, such as a shudder from time to time, significantly delayed shifts, or in the extreme it will stop shifting and go into limp mode. But by that point, it may be too late. The progression from...

BREAKING: GM is officially recalling the L87

Yes. And the technology is nowhere near as well-documented and accessible for DIY repair as the mechanical bits. There is a big opportunity for a company to start reverse engineering and documenting the technology in these, and help facilitate DIY repairs to it. Right now, it's all black boxes...

    Chevy timing issues

That looks right to my eyes. Without a bidirectional scan tool, all you can do is fire parts at it. With a cheap multimeter, check the continuity on the cam sensor wires back to the connector at least. After that, I would move to replacing the cam position sensor with a factory part. Get one...

Broken Camshaft Position Sensor fallen into Timing Chain Cover. What are my Options?

Bummer man. I agree with Carlos. You definitely don't want to start it with that in there. I would wager that you'll find it when you get that timing cover off - not much clearance for it to get down into the oil pan, but I've had to pull that too. Plan on a long Saturday if you have to pull the...

Cooling fans come on as soon as I turn on the engine; AC won't get cold

Did you replace the coolant temp sensor with an OEM ACDelco part from a known good supplier (not Amazon)? Did you also replace the pigtail on the sensor? We’ve seen lots of instances of aftermarket sensors not working and broken wires near the sensor. Finally, do you have access to a code...

    Chevrolet Suburban 3500 Questions

Update: the owner of Duramax Specialties is a great guy and was kind enough to confirm that the 3500 HD Suburbans DO NOT in fact have a Power Steering Control Module. He suggested I get with the White Automotive to have them deal with the error. I'll reach out to them today and see what they say.
