Do the AFM Deflector actually help with consumption??
Also does the orientation of the holes on the oil pressure relief valve matter??? I remember when I installed my new oil pan I didnt pay attention to which way the oil holes were aligned on the oil pressure relief valve ??
Quick Question I went with the Dorman Rear Cover that had the seal already installed and I didnt use the alignment tool I just made sure the rear crankshaft seal was good all the way around . The instructions called for me to use a dorman alignment tool but looking at how the dorman tool works...
Spent some more time under the truck today and noticed the passenger side rack and pinion boot is wet this could be what's causing the front cover to be oily
Received the new valve cover and gasket yesterday. I went ahead and changed the oil last night and installed the new valve cover.
Time to put some miles on the truck I'll report back.
The crankshaft bolt has never been removed that I know of but ill give it a look inside the harmonic balancer to see if I can see something. There is no oil cooler there is a block plate on the side of oil pan.
The valve covers have been replaced. They are not leaking at all. Im unable to see...
No I didnt use the tool couldnt find one locally and needed to get the truck back on the road. The rear of the pan is dry. I am only seeing the oil build up near the front. sht fck it I went ahead and bought the aftermarket 12570427 seems to be identical to the GM version. Hopefully this will...
Thanks! Thats a pretty good deal. I will consider this for my gen 3 rebuild. Im going to try to find the cheapest driver side valve cover thats updated to see if that slows down the oil consumption. My oil pan /timing cover seems to be leaking. So ill start with the valve cover
Are all the...
I havnt installed the updated valve cover yet. I installed new gm pick up tube o-ring and put 4 dabs of rtv where the block meets the covers.
I want to assure its the timing cover gasket sort of hard for me to tell where its coming from. I cleaned that area up during the last oil change so...
Well im back again with another oil leak after a couple of oil pan gasket changes, rear mail seal replacement and valve cover gasket replacement.
Lately ive noticed my 08 tahoe has been drinking oil so I decided to check the oil pan area and I discovered the front area of the oil pan is covered...
Well after all the previous work I ran into a problem where the camshaft would not rotate after torquing the cam bolts. While trying to solve the issue I reinstalled the old retainer plate and that did not solve the issue. Leading to the replacement ebay camshaft being the issue. I placed the...
I went with Meiling 3srh60 timing chain to replace the old timing chain. Had a heck of a time getting it to line up but I finally got it. Is there a way to double check its timed correctly?
Update: Bought a stock rated camshaft and got it installed. I reused the cam plate/gasket after cleaning it since gasket was in good shape and it's the recessed style.
I have a new timing chain and the way. But will still be using oem sprockets they seem to be in good condition.
I didn't...
Some of the sensors on the gen 3(99-06) are in different locations than the gen 4. The 2 different years use different reluctor wheels on the crankshaft so youll need some type of signal converter and a extended wiring harness
Got all the rings gapped and pistons install and cleaned the cylinder heads next I'll be checking the valves/seats and replacing the valve seals until I decide which cam
I was able to get the ring to spin freely today using some sand paper, a broken ring and pb blaster. Bottom end is finished next up is choosing the cam.
Anyone tried the sloppy mechanic stage 2 cam ???
the grove is damaged. Im thinking this can not be repaired.I'll ask the machine shop this Monday.
The rockauto piston thats 30 bucks is a GM and the pistons in my block are GM just the part numbers are different. I was hoping if someone knew if they would be interchangeable
Yes the top ring grove has a scuff around the grove which makes the ring get stuck in the grove. When I dis assembled everything I used a wire brush, brake cleaner and piece of broken ring to clean the groves. All other piston and groves are ok.
