Build thread - 3.08 to 3.42 front and rear gear change

I got the old rear end out today, but I had a significant set back I think I'm going to have to return the rear axle and get a different one. The PS trailing arm mounting bracket is badly bent. Also the stabilizer bar (not sure on official name - it mounts on frame on PS) mount is tweaked as...

Build thread - 3.08 to 3.42 front and rear gear change

Starting a thread for my gear change. This week I purchased a GU6 14-bolt, Gov-lock rear end from LKQ. Came from an '09 Yukon. I've taken the cover off and removed the axles so far. Everything looks pretty good. No silver in the oil (although it was pretty black) and the parking brake...

Need opinions: 3.42 vs 3.73 GR

bought my 14-bolt rear end! Thanks for the opinions on ratio. I did end up going with 3.42. In looking at final drive ratios in different gears with the 6L80 trans, I just couldn't really see the benefit to 3.73, especially for towing in 4th. If anyone else is trying to make this decision...

Sounds good, I'll do some sleuthing. Great link to the pathing document, thanks!

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Agreed. the thread drifted a little off topic, but still useful info for those of us that have non-functional rear defrost. (I've tried the frost fighter kit or similar, I think I still have some issues. Some further troubleshooting needed) I'm still no closer to resolving my remote start...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Tried the key on x2 reset tip tonight - no good. Darn I was really hoping it would be something simple like that. My rear defrost has not worked since I bought the rig. When I bought it the P/S coiled wire was detached. I glued it on with the conductive glue kit available online - I thought...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Ah yes, I think his screen name is Tozan! @Tozan, when you did your t-case conversion, did you end up reprogramming your new TCCM to the VIN? IIRC, you did not, since it's not needed for it to work properly. I have since done the same conversion. Everything works great, except now my remote...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Finally got a chance to try this today - yes! CEL comes on for a second when trying to remote start. No other lights and CEL goes out and stays out afterwards. Thanks, James. What is Charles' screen name? Or can you tag him? And yes, parking lights and tail lights flash when using remote...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Thanks much. I thought of something…. Could a changed transfer case module be causing the abort? I converted from single speed to 2-speed t-case which of course involved a module change. I didn’t reprogram the module to the VIN - I didn’t learn how to do that since everything seemed to work...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Good input - I did play around with the Tech 2 quite a bit more in the last few days and found some of the menus and commands you guys mention. I tried the test you mentioned, after trying the remote start, I checked the Theft menu and everything looked good there, no triggers. I could post...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Thanks, I'm just not seeing where the Tech2 will diagnose the remote start. It's not showing up in the list when I do diagnostics on BCM, chassis, or drivetrain. And I'm not seeing it in the list of modules in that menu. I have cleared all DTCs and it still won't remote start. Anyone...

Need opinions: 3.42 vs 3.73 GR

Thanks, I appreciate this input and will definitely be interested in hearing your feedback after the 14-bolt install. I'm still a little torn, see below. Yep, exactly my thoughts about towing in 4th gear. My calculator is showing 2800 at 65 mph in 4th, too. If I wanted to tow in 5th, 3.73...

On road trip - getting P219A code

Thanks, Mike. Good info. Yes, I am definitely wondering if the driver side O2 is getting ready to go. But using the can of Techron along with a tank of Chevron 89 with Techron in it seems to have helped, so I'm back to thinking it may have been an injector. I drove about 700 miles more on...

On road trip - getting P219A code

So, the light is off now! It was on all day with 300+ miles of driving, but I put the can of techron in yesterday and a tankful of Chevron 89, that also has techron today, and tonight I noticed it's off. Could be the techron, or could be unrelated. I'm not going to worry about it too much...

On road trip - getting P219A code

On the front end of a 1500 mile road trip - going to pick up my daughter from college for the summer. (from Vancouver, WA to San Jose, CA, various side trips included) A couple hundred miles into the trip, MIL came on. Stopped at O'Reilly and got a scan (I don't have my Tech 2 with me)...

Ready to pull trigger on Derale trans cooler - need advice

Thank you for encouraging me to go that way! Yeah I’m always keen on using GM-engineered solutions over possibly mismatched aftermarket parts, especially when it’s part of a system like cooling. Now I have to decide if I want to try and add a factory engine oil cooler. Before GMT 900s I was...

Ready to pull trigger on Derale trans cooler - need advice

Factory style cooler installed and working! Tips: pay close attention to original line routing before removing. You obviously have to take front fascia/grill off, but also take the splash pan off beneath the radiator. It’s just four bolts and it makes things much easier. It’s tricky fishing...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Thanks, I will do those things. I’m pretty sure I have tried clearing the codes, but will try again. It is registering the push of the remote start - the parking lights come on and relays click in the engine bay.

    Replacing front struts etc

I just replaced front struts on my '13. I went aftermarket because I didn't want to have to deal with getting the assembly put together (or try it myself and risk losing an appendage). I'm pretty sure stock you have to buy all the components separately, but I think you have them correctly...

    Remote Start Troubleshooting - SOLVED

Hello all, My remote start is not working. I've gone through the usual and obvious items that one can find on generic and GM sites. I have two remotes, both work normally except neither does remote start. No CEL. I've done diagnostics with my Tech 2 and I have just three codes: 1) radio...

Need opinions: 3.42 vs 3.73 GR

Interesting! I didn’t know the 14-bolt was an option in GM 900 tahoes! Thanks for sharing

Need opinions: 3.42 vs 3.73 GR

For the front, I can get a junkyard unit with either 3.42 or 3.73, no problem. But for the rear, since I want to upgrade to the 9.5" ring gear/14-bolt, I would have to do a ring and pinion swap if I wanted 3.73. That 14 bolt was just offered in RWD escalades and denalis (and Avalanche?) with...

Need opinions: 3.42 vs 3.73 GR

I know I want to change out the 3.08s in my '13, 5.3, 4wd Tahoe, just not sure if I want 3.42 or 3.73. Some factors I'm considering: - I don't tow anything heavy yet, but my wife and I are considering a small travel trailer. Upper weight limit would be about 5K. - Would like to stay with...

    upgrade air intake tube

I started this thread when I wanted to upgrade the tube on my ‘09 Tahoe (which was totaled last summer) - now I’m doing similar with my ‘13. This time went the DIY route. My design is a little unorthodox. All the elbows are stormwater drain PVC, not sch. 40. Drain pvc is smaller in OD and...
