    Having the same experience working inside doors and the inside of fuel tanks, I finally got a "cut protection sleeve." This is the one I have, but there's a wide selection of others.

    It's not "just" butyl, and in fact butyl makes up less than a third of it. A substantial portion is filler to make it more substantial (i.e. give it "body"), so it's not interchangeable with the variety you'd use for glass. See the MSDS excerpt I've attached.

    Increasing pulley size is possible, but there's the risk of lowering the output enough at idle that low-speed steering could be negatively affected. The preferable way would be to use a kit like this, which I've done on other GM pumps. It's not clear if this will work on our GMT900s, though.

    My '13 LTZ 2WD with ~195K, on 80% worn stock-size Defender LTX M/Ss, and all-original suspension (AFAIK) does not have the issues you're describing. I wish it had more caster, though, as the return-to-center force is much less than my preference (I always increase it on my vehicles).

    I'd check the condition of the rear suspension bushings. A static alignment wouldn't necessarily catch wear that allows movement under dynamic conditions.

    The spring harmonics and the weights of the springs, retainers, pushrods, and valves would only matter to the tune if you're increasing the rev limiter RPM, and the valves would only affect tuning if their edge profile and/or stem size changed the flow more than a few percent.
