Currently my 2020 Tahoe 5.3L is stock except for a stage 2 cam. Next up on the mod list is to give it a little rumble. But just a little. I'm hoping to keep the stock exhaust and maybe just swap out the muffler. Anyone attempt such a thing and have decent results?
Electronically shutting off the DOD will not stop a DOD lifter failure. I know from experience.
The only sure way to take away the risk is to do a full mechanical DOD delete. New cam, new lifters, and some programming.
What are you trying to accomplish via tuning?
If you are modding your engine or etc, I would suggest that you find a tuner local to you and not a 'remote tuner'. Just my $0.02
No lift. Take the grill apart, it's just a bunch of busy work. I chose not to remove the ac condenser. I wish I would have. It couldn't really be moved out of the way, so I had to work around it. If I had that part to do over, I'd open the ac loop and remove it.
I pulled an engine on a 2020 Tahoe by taking the front grill apart and etc. If I had it to do over, I'd at least explore pulling the body off. Moot point if you don't have a lift, tho.
Well, got a warmer day yesterday so I had a deeper look at this. After inspecting connections, I got a new starter. Problem solved.
I still think it's odd that it wasn't getting any worse.
What I find odd about it is that it doesn't really seem to be getting any worse. I suppose checking cables and terminals and etc. isn't a bad place to start.
My 2020 Tahoe (5.3L, 130K miles) has a starting problem. It almost always starts, but cranks slow. Maybe 1 time out of 20 when I bump the key it won't crank. Its been doing this for months now. Battery is about 3 years old. Volt gauge is always around 14-15 when running. Starter and...
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to drop the oil pan to change the oil pump, due to the solenoid on the pump.
IMO, if you're going with a stock non-AFM cam, keep the VVT.
I would replace the timing chain if you can. My 2020 had noticeable stretch at 120k miles.
Will you be able to do this with the block in the truck? Yes. You'll need to take most if not all of the radiator/grill/bumper cover/etc. off to do it. The only tricky part is the AC condenser. You'll have to work around it if you don't want to do an AC recharge.
"Texas Speed" has kits, as...
If you put a GM re-manufactured transmission in it, will it still have the same weak points as it had from the factory? Most good transmission shops correct the weak points.
Some public libraries have factory service manuals available. That'll have all your pin-outs and etc. But with that many codes, I'd look for a disconnected harness or a cut harness.
It's kind of a "might as well..." You're already gonna be there, they are not that expensive... I had a drivers side fail at 105K miles. I don't know how common that failures are.
