Another 5.3 AFM Dead Lifter Issue - Help Me Decide What to Do

After 20,000 miles on my TSP swapped AFM delete camshaft I'm not seeing any difference in motor performance. It still drives like new and I would definitely say go ahead with the camshaft swap. One word of advice though the 6l80e transmission will go out eventually after doing a high performance...

    Dreaded 6L80E transmission issues

I ended up going with a brand new transmission and torque converter with the updated aftermarket parts for the 6L80E transmission. I didn't want to do a rebuild being that it came from GM with faulty parts already. While going through it there was a bad Camshaft position sensor that had to be...

Why have more than one SUV?

One for the wife and one for me. Plus you can mod one different from the other one that's driver friendly "which is for the wife." Or a little obnoxiously loud and not driver friendly, 'the husbands SUV."

    Dreaded 6L80E transmission issues

Transmission won't go into reverse or drive now. Only 104,000 miles on my 2016 LS Chevy Tahoe. I had already suspected this would happen given the faulty 1-2-3-4 clutch pistons are crappy from the factory. And 3-5-R are in the same boat. Let's not talk about the super fragile valve body...

    What Cam Should I pick

Go with the TSP Chopacabra Camshaft. I recently installed this in my 2005 Chevy Tahoe and it is mean with aggressive chop! Still has lots of low end torque and much more snappy throttle response. You will not be disappointed!

    Dod/afm issues

It's two routes you can possibly go. You can do a full Camshaft DOD/AFM delete and tune which would be the best if the engine itself is in good condition. But if you're thinking about engine swapping the 8.1L would be the best way to go. Strong engine that comes without the DOD/AFM and the extra...

    Brake issues post cam swap

Try getting a professional shop to tune it before you go throwing money at it. Also a 3000 stall converter could help with the brakes also. But I don't believe your cam is aggressive enough for that. Most likely culprit is the tune itself.

What kind of tune did you use once you finished the Camshaft swap?

Another 5.3 AFM Dead Lifter Issue - Help Me Decide What to Do

Only 92,000 miles on the motor, I wouldn't swap a new engine in. It would be the cheapest route to just install a new Camshaft with a full DOD/AFM delete and tune and call it good. No need for such a huge job. I had a lifter failure on my DOD/AFM lifter in my Tahoe and just did a DOD/AFM...

    2017 Chevrolet Tahoe TSP 5.3L L83 V2 Stage 1 Camshaft

I have put that Camshaft package into my 2016 Chevy Tahoe. It's not cheap once they start having to take the heads off and resurfacing them. But I would go with that set up with the DOD/AFM delete. Drivability is great for city/highway driving and towing.

Trailer brake missing on my 22 Tahoe

I have had situations where someone was within my lane and had to get on the brakes which caused my trailer to start jacknifing a little. Which in turn I didn’t panic let off the brakes let my truck roll and lightly applied the trailer brakes which slowed it down enough to get behind the truck...

Trailer brake missing on my 22 Tahoe

You are only required to have trailer brakes if pulling over a certain amount of weight on public roads. You would have to look at your DOT laws to figure out correct weight online. And if you're worrying about wearing your brakes out you would always use your transmission to save your brakes...

    2008 Tahoe Z71 Rebuild - DOD Failure - DOD/AFM Delete & Performance Upgrades (201k miles)

That's a great set up. I would say 100% use the ARP head bolts and resurface the heads before putting them back on. A side note but it's not a must do I would recommend porting the heads also. But you'll definitely want to take them to a head shop and have them resurfaced and pressure tested...

Little vs big V8 2025 Tahoe

Unless you're planning on towing over 8,000 pounds it's a waste to go diesel. If you're doing a lot of heavy long haul towing then diesel is the way to go. But if you're occasionally towing then 5.3l or 6.2l will be more than enough.

2020 6.2L: misfires, lifter issues and engine replacement - SOLVED

I would recommend getting a new Camshaft and lifters. My wife's Tahoe had the same issues and I just replaced the Camshaft with a TSP afm/dod delete stage 1 Camshaft and lifters. You'll need a tune from HP Tuners and new hi-flow oil pump, plus the dod delete kit and your tahoe will be good as...

    Towing with a 5.3 Tahoe

I have a 2016 chevy tahoe with a 5.3l and have towed 8500lbs successfully 500 plus miles with no issues. Up and down hills through mountains. Use your trailering mode and you should be fine.

2013 Yukon/I’m new to car building anything helps

I would go with the Camshaft swap at least a stage 1 or Chopacabra Camshaft. Make sure you do the DOD/AFM delete also. Get rid of those GM junk lifters. Put a monster tune on it and you'll notice a big difference. If that's not enough for you putting on a whipple or magnuson supercharger would...

    2017 5.3L with 6 speed - will a tune make my trans shift firmer/better? 6L80

    2017 5.3L with 6 speed - will a tune make my trans shift firmer/better? 6L80

A good tune will definitely open up your SUV and changing shift points will help with the longevity of your SUV also. I stress don't go the cheap route and use a hand held tuner. Please have a tune shop do it with HP Tuners so you can work with the tuner to get it dialed in the way you want it...

Looking for inspiration on mods - 2021 Yukon XL Denali (white)

Well I will save you time and money concerning mods you should most definitely do to your SUV. Very first thing you should do is a AFM/DOD delete with a Texas Speed Camshaft. I went with a stage 1 Camshaft DOD/AFM delete package with the upgraded lifters and valve springs. It will save you on...

2016 Yukon 6.2 code P06DD after delete kit

I did the same thing with my 2016 Tahoe. The only difference is I went with an HP tune that TSP recommended and I installed a new high flow oil pump that was recommended also. Switch out that GM oil pump for a Melling high volume oil pump and see if that solves the issue.
