Yep, changing the thermostat should fix that issue. Also it is possible the previous owner installed a thermostat designed to open at lower coolant temps resulting in the issue you are seeing. So make sure you get a genuine GM thermostat.

I would suggest you open your air filter box to see if oil or oil residue is in there or the round rubber accordion hose connected to it. Sounds like oil or oil fumes may be getting pulled in from one of the two oil breather lines the connects to the pre-air box box from each of the valve...

I installed them on my 2015 Tahoe LT in the summer and they are performing as expected. This will be my first winter using them so I can't comment on how they will hold up in the harsh Wisconsin winter with lots of salt.
Yes it did resolve my issue. Now the heat gets nice and hot. Before I replaced the thermostat, the coolant temp was around 175-180, but now it's around 210.
Over the weekend in Wisconsin our temps dropped into the low teens but I was nice a warm in my Tahoe :)
