First issue on my 2026!

Albeit minor. A few days ago the passenger seat occupancy sensor is always telling the computer that a child is in the seat. I even see the baby head on my guage cluster. If an adult sits there it works and senses an adult. It’s supposed to sense that there is no person there and show a red X on my display vice little baby Johnny.

I looked and all connectors are good, nothing on seat. I got a autel scanner I’ll see if I can get to that sensor on that and maybe recalibrate it…


Maybe I should disconnect the battery for 20 min first????

Dealer is my last resort I don’t want them to get their hands on the truck.

those sensors are usually a pressure switch under the seat. part of the srs system.
your scanner may show you the status of the sensor, if it fails to operate properly then make a appt with the dealer to have them check and replace if it also fails for them.
they are not going to just take your word for it. they have to confirm so they can get paid from gm.

You think doing a battery reset of the truck is worthwhile first? I wonder if the sensor will “re-zero”?

Tbh, couldn’t hurt

lol. I checked out this sensor in case I had to replace it, it’s the entire pad of the seat. Discount cost is $400 and you need to re-upholster the entire seat bottom!

It’s not just a pressure switch.




I have to check if the extended warranties cover this kind of thing. I’m leaning towards getting one now. I’m assuming this would be a $1000+ dealer repair with labor.

In my truck all 7 seats have this sensor.

it's a little bag i.e. sensor, it goes under the seat, not sure why you would have to re-upholster, the seat cushion "should" just have hooks/clips
wasn't the point of buying a 2026 was to have a warranty?
take it to the dealer, complain, leave, come back and pick it up after they fix it.
the little bag is filled with air, depending on how much weight is on the seat it creates pressure on the sensor inside the bag
so if say a 30lb child is sitting up front the passenger air bag is off automatically, if a 40+ lb kid is sitting up front the sensor is activated the airbag is on.
I am not sure of the exact weight it takes but it is in that range I believe
the design has been the same for 26 years at least

I had a similar situation when I purchased a new 2014 Impala 2LTZ (new model). The problem occurred on the way home from purchasing the vehicle new. When we had test driven the car, someone was always in the RF seat.

With no one or any items in the RF seat, the seatbelt alarm would sound and the warning light illuminated.

I returned the car to the dealer. The issue was repaired by recalibrating the RF seat passenger-presence system. No parts replaced - no seat disassembled.

Later, I received a written safety recall notice from GM regarding the issue. It only involved the Impala models with the heated and cooled front seats.

The passenger presence system not only involves firing the RF airbag, it also involves how hard it is fired.

If you remove the battery terminal connector, you may erase one or more stored codes for the issue.

I would return the vehicle to the dealer. The repair may be a simple as a recalibration or software update. You do not want to ignore a critical safety component of your truck.

My autel mx900 doesn’t have the functions to recalibrate this sensor. Updated all the software and tried it. Also tried disconnecting the battery for 30 min, no change.

I was able to scan the SRS, BCM, and other modules and there are no codes stored for this.

Off to the dealer I go, I’ll let them know I think a recal should be the first step.
