Well, myth number one I learned, "Oh, that's a steep discount for a custom order." What difference does it make, an order is an order, other than, you absolutely want this vehicle and they know it. We only got $4400 off a 2025 custom order. BUT. 3 other dealers simply said no, they cannot do that. That was my barometer.
since a 2026 is $4900 more than a 2025, the same deal as I type is $9,300 off. Painful reality, imho that's into employee pricing and beyond supplier.
Anyway, in our case, our salesperson was on vacation that week. She texted back nobody told me it's in. Later she said it's in, you can come on Sat. to see it.
That's when I saw a family about to get in so I said to hold on, that is sold. They were not disrespectful as they were tire kickers, they said no problem.
But absolutely GM and BMW custom ordering are two different things, and I hear Porsche is over the top. On my BMW, they asked for permission to drive it to the garage to store since I was not picking it up, and they made it clear, the MSO says 3 miles, it will have 4 when you pick it up.
So imho at the end of the day, the reason one custom orders a Tahoe/Suburban, is to avoid expensive add options (black out emblems, huge 24" rims that cost a lot, etc. etc., not to feel you are special hahahahaha). Again our custom order was simply $4400 off list, not one add on other than a bogus doc fee of $4xx. I know it's bogus, I'm ok not trying to argue it away. My dad would.
As mentioned, and I learned it here, the chat bot at Chevy is the most accurate status to see the order change through the various status. yes, the dealer can get this info as well, but, can you call them twice, 3X a day?
One thing again I would recommend--ask for a printout of the order. It spells out the equipment, and this is what few would answer when I asked, IT HAS YOUR NAME ON IT.
There is no such thing as a custom order with Japanese, it's some sort of secret agreement between customer and dealer. MFG has no idea of the deal. So be careful not to let a GM dealer do that, as they absolutely have a custom order process and we did it. Would we do it again? Probably not, as mentioned, it's underwhelming. If you can get the deal off of a vehicle that just came in, go for it is my .02....
