Does Chevrolet still notify you that you custom build has been picked up.

They’d give you a production date etc

They’d send it by email?

You (the customer) is not notified.

The ordering dealer is notified, or can check the status in their ordering system.

The last time we ordered a new vehicle our sales person (dealer) provided us info from GM about when the order was placed, when it was picked up for production, when it went into production and also when it was built. I think at the time it was provided through a login in a GM tracking system.

We were also given tracking info for the railroad so we could track our vehicle to the nearest rail head offload point.

The only time we didn’t have a clue of where our vehicle was located was after the trucking company picked it up to deliver out to our local courtesy delivery dealership.

Onstar info was also provided so we could see in real time where it was at on the train route also.

We would get emails all along the way, that lagged the online chat. In retrospect, it was a very underwhelming experience. To me it may as well been a Corvette. To the dealer it was nothing more than anything else that was on the lot. We arrived to see it (it came in on a Friday, and we would be picking it up the following Thursday due to getting the cashiers check from an online bank--do not do this, it is terrible) and a family was about to test drive it. hahahahahahahahaha Just want to paint a realistic picture.

I have a different dealer experience. The salesman I have is a friend. I’ve been getting my Tahoes etc from him for almost 4 decades. When my ordered trucks come in, the keys are scoffed up and secured. Until I test drive it and agree to take it. After I’ve agreed to take it, the truck is marked sold and the keys disappear until it’s prepped.
Sometimes it pays to have loyalty to a dealership and salesperson

Well, myth number one I learned, "Oh, that's a steep discount for a custom order." What difference does it make, an order is an order, other than, you absolutely want this vehicle and they know it. We only got $4400 off a 2025 custom order. BUT. 3 other dealers simply said no, they cannot do that. That was my barometer.

since a 2026 is $4900 more than a 2025, the same deal as I type is $9,300 off. Painful reality, imho that's into employee pricing and beyond supplier.

Anyway, in our case, our salesperson was on vacation that week. She texted back nobody told me it's in. Later she said it's in, you can come on Sat. to see it.

That's when I saw a family about to get in so I said to hold on, that is sold. They were not disrespectful as they were tire kickers, they said no problem.

But absolutely GM and BMW custom ordering are two different things, and I hear Porsche is over the top. On my BMW, they asked for permission to drive it to the garage to store since I was not picking it up, and they made it clear, the MSO says 3 miles, it will have 4 when you pick it up.

So imho at the end of the day, the reason one custom orders a Tahoe/Suburban, is to avoid expensive add options (black out emblems, huge 24" rims that cost a lot, etc. etc., not to feel you are special hahahahaha). Again our custom order was simply $4400 off list, not one add on other than a bogus doc fee of $4xx. I know it's bogus, I'm ok not trying to argue it away. My dad would.

As mentioned, and I learned it here, the chat bot at Chevy is the most accurate status to see the order change through the various status. yes, the dealer can get this info as well, but, can you call them twice, 3X a day?

One thing again I would recommend--ask for a printout of the order. It spells out the equipment, and this is what few would answer when I asked, IT HAS YOUR NAME ON IT.

There is no such thing as a custom order with Japanese, it's some sort of secret agreement between customer and dealer. MFG has no idea of the deal. So be careful not to let a GM dealer do that, as they absolutely have a custom order process and we did it. Would we do it again? Probably not, as mentioned, it's underwhelming. If you can get the deal off of a vehicle that just came in, go for it is my .02....

This sounds like your issues are not with GM but in fact with your ordering dealer.
The dealer is a franchise retailer and not GM but they are the best or worst representatives of the manufacturer but they should never have offered a customer ordered vehicle to be used as a regular vehicle for public use unless the vehicle was refused by the original ordering customer and especially if it was already paid for.

I got automated emails all along the way. So imho if you say the customer is not notified, this is because of the dealership. One thing I learned not here but online, was to make sure you have a copy of the order with your name after dealer is done placing the order. Seems like there are dealers who don't give the customer a printout. One, you want to make sure it was configured as you wanted. Two, GM better know who you are. If they don't? It'd be like Toyota where the "order" is between the dealer and the mfg, customer is in no way linked to it.

You can also chat a bot at the Chevy website. You can check this multiple times a day, whereas it wouldn't be proper to be calling the dealer multiple times per day.
