Tire rotation on AWD?

My friend Ron described the generally accepted FWD rotation process. The owner's manual says to cross the front tires to the rear and move the rears straight up.

Lazy tire shops will just do front to rear and never cross them.

I don't think it really matters which ones are crossed as long as you pick one way and stick with it.
I like the first way as the tires going to the steer axle have had time to wear into a straight pattern. I checked a 2009 Yukon Denali owner's manual and there was only one pattern. In the grand scheme of things you're right. Pick one way and stick with it.
