2013 Escalade ESV DOD full delete becoming rebuild

I don't "think" so. Noise was down low, from the oil pan. Pistons are stock replacement, cylinder decks were not machined, cylinder heads were machined 0.006", I am running Fel-Pro head gaskets. I don't think clearance was too close. I am going to check the wrist pins, in a manner of speaking...

I will look closer. Agreed. Though to be honest, if I don’t find anything soon, I am going to just pull the engine. It will go back on the engine stand to be completely disassembled. And we will see what I did wrong. Reassembly will include all new bearings, gaskets, and hardware.

#4 main cap lower bearing. #4 main journal. Sorry for the poor quality. Me and the camera's auto focus were not getting along... Tabs on rear seal plate overlapped #5 main bearing cap. No access. I reinstalled the main caps with a smear of oil on the bearings, then hand tightened all...

#3 main cap lower bearing and thrust surface. #3 main journal and thrust face.

I was able to get more work on my Escalade today. I jacked up the front end again, lowered the steering rack, and removed the oil pan. I removed main caps 1 through 4, one at a time. They all looked the same. Some wearing off of the tin plating, no scratches or grooving in the lower bearings...

Agreed. Once I finish checking the rockers and lifters for cylinders 6 and 8, then borescope the rest of the cylinders, I am going to pull the main caps one by one. Understood. Nope. No smoking gun. Just a list of things it is not. I don't know what the cylinder finish is. My machinist bored...

The past two days have pretty much been a wash. Other responsibilities and rain have kept me away from my Escalade. However, I did get a brief chance to start to learn how to use my new borescope. I was able to look in cylinder #3 with the piston near BDC. #3 cylinder walls and piston. I...

Honestly, that makes sense. I just got it in my head that something was going wrong. And I expected better oil pressure. Will live and learn. Thanks!

West 1: I do agree that the lifters were likely OK. However, I measured existing preload at 0.145". The Delphi LS7 lifters call for preload between 0.050" and 0.100". My OCD will not let me let that go. I will cheerfully purchase a new set of correct length pushrods. Also, I agree that the...

‘New’ spark plugs with 100 miles on them. No smashed electrodes. Even burn on all them. Looks a little white(lean) to me, though. However, 50,000 mile spark plugs I pulled out of the driver's cylinder head when I started engine disassembly showed the same kind of burn.

Before the thunderstorms rained me out this afternoon, I got a little more work done. I removed all 8 spark plugs. All were tight, came out smoothly, showed a good even burn(if a touch lean?). None of them had damaged electrodes. More importantly, getting to #8 was only a minor pain in the...

I don't 'think' so. I replaced the crankshaft pulley with a new GM unit in December of 2023. This one seemed intact when I reinstalled it on the crankshaft after I installed the overhauled engine back into my Escalade in April. I can remove the serpentine belt and get a feel on the pulley...

NICE! Two of those videos you listed are ones I had watched and learned a great deal about preload on LS lifters. Thanks!

Agreed. If and when I don't find anything in the valve train, I will pull the timing cover for a look see. While I had the oil pan off, I tried looking up into the timing cover. Oil pump was in the way. However...my new articulated borescope arrived today. For giggles, I may try to snake it up...

Thank you! I do this like I mean it! Yeah. Nature of the beast for the kind of luck I have. Had I just slapped it back together with a new cam and lifters, the engine likely would have run just fine. ;) Tried to do it right, though... I WILL figure out what is wrong. I will gladly through...
