These vehicles may live on mechanically forever, but in the rust belt the body will fall off around them. The bad part is fixing mechanical issues is often much easier than fixing corrosion issues.
Do some Craigslisting in the south and when spring break rolls around convince the wife to go to...
Don't but it unless your ok with big gaping Rust holes. There are probably going to be others that follow the rockers. Most likely the rear quarter panels. Oh and possibly rusted out brake lines. And don't forget fuel lines. Oh and emergency brake cables too... Annnnd seized up spare tire hoist...

Speaking of the subject... What are the best bearings to go with on rear axle? I know to use timken on front wheel hub assembly but haven't had luck finding the "go to" bearing for the rear.

^^^What he said about the tranny cooler. But besides the tune, my Tahoe is mostly stock and I think it hauls very well, the power is definitely there. I Plan on upgrading the cooler soon and getting a trans temp gauge.

Get it tuned by black bear and it'll pull a whole lot nicer. I remember towing a double axle mowing trailer before I got my tune and the difference was night and day. The cleaner shift points make a whole world of difference. Before hand I had issues with it shifting at very inconvenient times...
For anyone looking to follow up on this topic, or a good forum that covers alot of off-road modifications for Tahoe's and Suburban's... Expedition Portal has a category called Full Size Domestic and covers a ton of useful info.

That's what I was considering, never even thought I might be able to find such a small piece... Would be very nice to NOT epoxy though

How did you end up mounting this? Want to make basically the exact same thing except for 2003 Tahoe. Bamboozled on best way to mount.

Has anyone ever tried taking a factory rack off of a suburban and mounting it to a Tahoe? That may allow the rails to be the entire length of the roof... I don't have a suburban with a factory rails sitting around to measure.
