Success!!! With diligence, persistence, pliers and a Spring Hook I was able to extract the sensor today. I drilled a small hole into the side of the sensor before it fell into the timing case and this gave me just enough purchase to grab it with the needle nose pliers and coax it back into...
Thank you all for the guidance and giving me the confidence to take on the project. I know it will take some time and requires a few specialized tools to get the job completed. Could be a nice time to replace the water pump and timing chain.
