I was thinking ignition too. I checked and replaced all those things.

I have 01 Suburban. I used OEM pads and had same issues. Just kept adjusting till it didn't hit the floor and pad was a close to drum as possible. Don't know how to shorten the cable.
I have an 01 Suburban LT. I went with the KYB Monomax shocks. Ride is slightly firmer than stock but smooth. True test is no complaints from the wife or kids. I also replaced all the bump stops with OEM, sway bar bushings, and re-greased all suspension fittings.
