Okay, well my neighbor is just begging me to jump to royal purple. He uses it in his 'stang and just rants and raves about how great it is. I wouldn't mind switching to it, as I know it's some pretty high quality stuff, but I can't justify it myself. It's expensive, hard to get, and I've heard stories about its solvents revealing new oil leaks. I'd rather have all of my 'almost' leaks stay 'almost' leaking. :hands: My question is: is it worth it? Or should I justs stick with the tool 'ol Valvoline?

Ps- I have a collapsed lifter too.

I personally dont see the point in a non high performance vehicle. Now i do use their gear oil in both my trucks rear ends(front as well in esky), but thats mostly for "what if" i tow something big. That stuff is defiantly some slick stuff. Pep boys is the easiest place to find it.

I have it in my rear end too, for the same reason. It is pretty damn slick! But I think I'm only going to go as far as a k&n filter and some mobil1 synthetic in the hoe. You've confirmed my notion that it's really not that beneficial, anybody else?

I always run mobile 1 with matching filter on everything. I've switched to royal before and saw no real benefit. I look at it this way. Carol Shelby used mobile 1 in all Shelby dodge cars to reduce engine oil temp's and better protect the turbocharged motors. If its good enough for him, its good enough for me.

one of my parents friends races with the open top cars, i cant remember the specific name for them, amatuer, but his friend did a test with his race car and he tested mobil 1, royal purple, and valvoline, and the mobil 1 gave the most power out of them all and also the engine ran the coolest with mobil 1, i mean power wise its not anything your gonna notice in our trucks lol, but cause of that ive always stuck with mobil 1

what is the thought on older tahoes going to synthetic when its at 225xxx miles and you dont know if it has ever had synthetic oil? i have heard that once you use it you cant go back because of the seals.

It makes no difference, you can use it whenever you want.

I run valvoline full synthetic or ams oil when I get it. Currently I'm on valvoline full syn with 1 qt of mobil 1 dexron VI mixed in.

Wait! What?
I was with you until I saw the Dexron mixed in.... Isn't that tranny fluid? You put a qrt of tranny fluid in with your engine oil? What does that do for you? Clean up sludge? Run thinner? Thicker? How often does that stuff go in, every oil change?

Mobil 1 syn for me too. Switched it over in my hoe at 63k, currently at 136k with no issues. The oil actually comes out very clean even after 5k miles with changes.

On a related note, I switched my boat over after the 10hr breakin period to mobil1 syn. The oil in the boat comes out really clean after 100hrs. It's darker, but about the shade of dark honey. Truthfully I could just change the filter and be good, but with over 900hrs, I don't take chances like that. The boat motor is a marinized 2001 Chevy LT1 motor. Produces around 330hp. There are a lot of forums that protest the quality of syn oil over regular, and when your pushing weight like we are in a wakeboard boat (read 2000-3000lbs water ballast) it puts a strain on all the components, especially at high RPM's for a long duration of time. Syn is just a little extra insurance.
