Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 - any good?

The Conti. LX20 came with my 2025 Tahoe LT (20") (tried 30-37 psi cold) feels firm and jittery in the cabin over bumps/potholes/road cracks/paints/reflectors you name it.

Dont care about, wet, snow, treadlife, towing etc.. Only goad is the ride comfort/noise

Was leaning on Alenza AS Ultras and changed my mind after hearing about it's too bounciness.

Placed an order 275/60/20 ($835 OTD, after LX20 treaded in 1200 miles on it) for a set of Pirelli Scorpion AS plus 3 after a little bit of research.

Still, I have option to pick them up or cancel before next week.

Any good about them? Will this upgrade justify the $835 comfort wise?

I had them on my 21 as replacement tires that I put on about 25,000 miles. They were superb and far superior to the Bridgestone's. I'll be switching them sooner on my 25.

Well, this is more of a function of your suspension and your tire pressure. But as a rule, they seem to be more supple and just a premium higher quality tire. The only reason I picked them over defenders where they looked more like a luxury SUV tire. The defenders at that time looked more like RV hauler tires.

One reason I didn’t get them (lol) is the sidewall looks ribbed which I wonder sometimes can be more prone to road grime hazing? It happened a lot on my F150’s 20” Hankooks. The 22” Michelin defenders I put on my Yukon have a pretty clean sidewall and seem easy to give a quick wipe to shine up and don’t seem to get as hazy? Not sure…. Just a thought.

Tires came today. Havent got em installed yet. Compared the AS Plus 3 vs LTX MS2 side by side with soft thumb test and pushed the sidewall toward the shoulder. Both cases LTX felt more flexible. Completely opposite to the tirerack reviews.

Coming off the Allenzas the quiet smooth ride is very noticeable.
A section of paved road that has roots underneath but not really washboard - on the Allenzas it was noisy and bumpy and with the Defenders it is barely noticeable.
They are that good

Installed the pirellis and completely disappointed. Firmer than OE Conti. LX20 (had 1.5k miles on it) even over paint strips and reflectors over smooth roads. Bit louder too. It is crazy loud on some surfaces, where I didnt even notice with LX20. Oh man!!!

Not sure how come a touring tire rated as comfort king fails Infront of a LX20 truck OE tire this miserably.

Do they need some kind of brake-in for a day and night difference?

BTW, DT scratched all 4 wheels. damn it. Hopefully it is the clear-coat. Got a letter saying they will fix it.

I have Perilli tires on my 17 Yukon they are 22'' have driven about 10 months seem fine to me. I have them at door recommended pressure.

Dealer had buy three get one free they installed with no problems other than one would lose a pound every 3 weeks but they got that fixed.

Yes, I had my 21 also. They were a light year's improvement over the OEM tires. And they felt soft and supple. I would say that. OP may have them too hard. Or have some other Rigid suspension issues. Have 25 k on them and they are still performing well....

Were they soft from day 1 or needed break-in? what psi are you running them?

Well, coming from Alenza's , they were a huge step up. We run them a 35 PSI, but both my vehicles have Air Ride and I think that makes a difference too. Most quality tires don't need a "Break in".... They should be good as they'll ever be w/in 3-500 miles....

My 2014 Denali came with the Bridgestone Alenza's and when I needed new tires, I bought the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 from Tire Rack. I loved them day one. Just felt better, looked better and handled better and I was Impressed! Def could all be in my head, I get that...

Now with my 2023 I'm about to do the same -- it came with Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra, 275/50R22 and I'm strongly leaning towards the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3's.
Interesting -- both tires, Bridgestone and Pirelli have a UTQG of 800; Bridgestone has 80k warranty; Pirelli only 70k warranty...
FYI -- I live local to Tire Rack, so I buy them there and have them installed by TR.
FYI #2 CR rates the Pirelli Scorpion as 70, The Michelin CrossClimate at 78
My Bridgestone's have 36k and I'm down to 5/32. Tire pressure is at the door rating, 35 psi (as they should be)

On my 21 we were driving in a rainstorm and hydroplaned with the Alenza's. Less than 12,000 miles on the tires. Sorry, but I've drove many years and a lot of different tires and never hydroplaned under the same conditions. I knew it was the tires and that scared us enough to get rid of them at about 20,000 miles. I couldn't afford to let that tread get any thinner and encounter another storm again. Once I put the Pirellis on. Confidence was restored.

Pretty sure these will be my stock-replacement tires when I need them. Great looking tire (along with all of the rave performance reviews).

Is this Alenza AS Ultra a soft/plush tire? It is my #2 in the list

Gotcha!
I saw other posters saying that their trucks came with the Allenza Ultra from the dealer.
When I was looking at Tahoe High Country, Yukon Denali and Escalade in 2024 they all came with the same Allenza tires in 275/50/22. I thought these higher trim $80k+ trucks would have the better Allenza - guess that’s wrong!
