Is it useful to use one on 2025 5.3L tahoe? Any adverse effects?

Any recommendations on a good suitable catch can?

You have a link of what you bought?

Any hissing or something from that unit?

Can you please share a picture of the connection to the motor?. Not sure where the hoses need to go.

I use a J&L (formerly JLT) oil catch can, and it comes with the correct length hoses, plus a great set of instructions for installation.

No noises, I cut the lines as short as possible. I don’t have any pictures of it installed right now.

Really simple to install comes with directions.

I have a J&L waiting to be installed once this stupid winter crap leaves Texas starting today. Hopefully I'll have some time to install it later this week. I've had J&L in all of our last couple SUVs as well as my Silverado for years.

I only see upsides in installing one and if one makes noise, there's something wrong with it or the installation.

Haha! Yeah, that video has been floating around for years. Some people take his advice, some don't. I don't, and have ran catch cans in my GM trucks and SUVs for 10+ years without any issues.

So yeah, the choice is yours.

Me either - 250k miles on 2003 5.3 and 145k on 2018 5.3 and 180k on 2013 3.6 - no catch cans - so far no issues - maybe someday I'll wish I had one... dunno (but I am very faithful at 5k oil changes with synthetic)

Just like AFM issues: some have them, even if they have disabled it while some don't even though they have it active forever. Go figure.

But yeah, I'll keep installing catch cans on these GDI things as long as I have them. IMO the dude is making a mountain out of a molehill, but other may and will disagree. LOL!

I have one installed, like it and no problems. If you are still covered under GM powertrain warranty you’d want to pull it back off before letting a dealer see it and possibly void your warranty.

Unless your dealer is cool like mine. I asked the service mgr and then we both walked back to ask the main tech that always does my work and both said no issues with it and their lifetime powertrain warranty.

I just emptied mine after 1000 miles on a 2026 6.2L. It caught good amount. I’d say it would be full to the brim at 4-5k miles.

Since there is nothing between the oil and the outlet port, I was always thinkinh that if it is possible for oil to reach the outlet when the vehicle hits bumps and the oil sloshes around violently while the outlet is also pulling?

That would be one hell of a bump, don’t over think it.

Bottom line is if there is any oil in the can it’s oil that didn’t make it into the intake.

If for some crazy reason you hit a speed bump at 60mph and it slosh’s around and a teaspoon of oil gets sucked in who cares. You still captures 16 ounces still left in the can!

No, no. My concern wasn't about not capturing everybit of oil. My concern was that a teaspoon of oil spread over hundreds of miles is ok as vapor without a catch can. But how good is it for the motor/cylinders and intake to take in a whole teaspoon of liquid oil in one or few strokes?

I don’t see that happening. You should be emptying the can before it’s to the brim.

Even if a teaspoon got sucked it at one time it would just be splattered all over the intake and get vaporized into each cylinder. It’s not like you will hydro lock the motor lol

Any abnormal hissing sound or anything different from the unit?

I still have mine on hand and need to install whenever I get time.
