New purchase 2025 tahoe - warranty question

The only time I've purchased an extended warranty was from the dealer at the time of the purchase (a previous vehicle, not a GM)

I am currently looking for a 2025 HC or Premier and I am curious about extended warranty options.

Is there a recommended 3rd party warranty company that people on here recommend or am I better of getting an extended warranty from the dealer?

I know I'm covered to 60k from the year and I see that chevy offers powertrain, silver and platinum, but when I try to get more info on pricing for those plan options, it asks me to select a dealer and when I attempt to do that, I only get options to view inventory, schedule an appointment, etc...everything but pricing details. Regardless, that's one of the things I'll ask about as that will add to the total price of the vehicle.

However, that's why I'm here, I'm trying to see if there are other/better options vs going though the dealer.

The reason pricing is not shown is because pricing is VERY subjective to the dealership and F&I manager on duty. I would recommend calling several dealers asking the price of the warranty (pending the sale of a vehicle with them) and seeing how many will quote you. Should shop warranties like a new car: Lowest price and least hassle wins.

I used Knapp when I bought mine. I gave the dealer the option to match the Knapp price but they couldn't (or wouldn't).

I got mine at James Black and they gave me a price before purchase and explained all my mileage and year options.

Some dealers will only offer aftermarket, non GMPP Extended Warranties. This is what happened when I purchased my 2024. First time I ever had a GM dealer not offer GMPP. Since it was a company I never heard of, I passed on it. I have found over the years there is less complications with the GMPP Extended Warranty, usually you do need to return to a dealer to get coverage. Sometimes they will reimburse if you are traveling and need something smaller addressed at an independent shop.

I have in the past asked when presented with a GMPP Extended Warranty if they would sell if for 1/2 what they original told me, because there is a high profit margin for the dealer on these and I was successful in getting the GMPP Extended Warranty at 1/2 the first price presented to me.

Same here. I cross shopped dealer, Knapp and Todd Sutherland. Knapp had the best price. They also have zero interest payment options. Highly recommend.

Agree with this post on calling different dealers. If u buy the truck then make the deal the price stays the same cause u don't have to but the extended at time of purchase. All u will need to do is get an inspection before the base warranty is up. Then buy the warranty at the same price. I've done it twice.

I bought mine from Black Caddy. I think you have 30 days to get "new" pricing.

You need to wait to purchase factory gm the warranty until it has just under a 1 year old or has less than 12,000 miles. My last two vehicles I purchased it at 11,990 miles on it and the warranty ended at 119,990 miles. It costs nothing more you're just following what their policies are when to purchase

Once you have decided to buy the warranty elsewhere, you would tell the person in finance when you about to sign 132 documents (JK) you C are buying it elsewhere. They will match or not at that point. Then follow through with your choice. Dealers want to add it to monthly payments in small increments so it’s less painful!

Fyi to anyone buying extended warranties, just had a friend get denied coverage (I think aftermarket warranty and also non-GM vehicle) for a head gasket failure because an oil change 4yrs ago was done 1000 miles too late.

I have a seasonal vehicle that I change every year with only about 1500 miles on it because EW requires you to follow MFG schedule which is 1 year or 7500 miles. Complete waste of money but could cover a 15K diesel engine if it blows. If you have an EW don't screw with maintenance schedules or you will be the loser.

This is the warranty i found to be the best... prices are there if you look at it.. i did a 72/72.. 250 deductable.. i usually trade every three or four years.. but i went out a bit.. just to make sure i had some coverage.. i would not be afraid to replace an engine.. i am thinking.. 89 octane.. catch can.. carbyte and 4k oil changes.. and it will be ok.

Just to be clear, the warranty goes into effect when you buy it, not after the original one expires. If you put on 11.5K miles in the first year, a 48 month warranty only buys you an additional 2 years of coverage.

I understand what you are saying, but let's say the dealer tells me a brand new vehicle has 3yr/60,000 on the engine/trans but I can buy a warranty to extend it to 100k, aren't I buying a 40k extension at that point (before even driving the vehicle)?

Or are you only referring to an add-on warranty? In that case, you'd want to buy it as close as possible to the current warranty expiring, unless I missed something obvious here.

Vcode made a great point,pay warranties, even if you are buying a new vehicle with a manufacture warranty are only covering the difference between aftermarket and manufacture. Some do allow the dealer to sell a true 5yr/100k that starts at the point of expiration of the manufacture warranty. I have only seen that with Nissan products if I am not mistaken. It is a really good point to be aware of because in many cases you are only paying for a 2yr/40k miles warranty.

I agree with his point, that's why I want to make sure I'm clear. If I were to buy a new vehicle, I want the extended warranty to start when the factory ends. If it costs me 2k to extend from 60k to 100k, then I'm paying 2k for 40k miles. I might be better off looking at warranties that I can still buy before I hit 60k that cost 2k that give me more than 40k miles.
