I have an Elecraft K2 I built 20 years ago. I use a mobile vertical mounted on a stake with a few radials while camping.
Nice. I have a few radios, depends on the mood I guess. Usually either the Icom 7300 or the 705. Sometimes my kid's G90. I tow a larger camper, a Keystone 272 so I have plenty of space. Sometimes I use the Alpha FMJ vertical, but more often just an end fed in a tree. I haven't towed with the Tahoe yet, just got it last week, I'll take it out in a few weeks.

2016 Tahoe and 17 foot Casita which weighs 3200-3300 pounds ready to go. I'm widowed so don't load up the Tahoe with family and gear. My 2 Meter Yaesu and mag mount antenna. My Icom 7300 and a couple of wire antennas. The Casita has trailer brakes. It tows great. I try to back off on the gas pedal when the transmission is about to shift to make life easier on the clutches and other wearing parts in the transmission.

I now have the Service Bulletin 70 degree Centigrade/158 degree Fahrenheit transmission Thermal Bypass Valve (transmission thermostat). I've towed it about 10,000 miles over 2.5 years. I was not towing it when the torque converter clutch started slipping and took out the rest of the transmission at 120,000 miles.

Weights per CAT scale.
Front axle - 2,520
Rear Axle - 3,440
Trailer Axle - 2,820
Total - 8,780

Tongue Weight about 380 pounds.

My Tahoe has the NHT Max Trailering Package with automatic rear Load Leveling and 3.42 rear axle ratio. Tows easily in Tow/Haul mode at 60 miles per hour on the level in 5th gear and 1900 RPM. I will accelerate to 65 on downhills and let the speed bleed off to 60 on the ensuing level.

On bigger uphills, I will shift to 4th and slow to 50-55 mph and turn on my four way flashers. In higher elevation over Rocky Mountain passes, I will end up in third gear and about 35-40 mph.

I try to drive for longevity of the drive train and no maintenance surprises away from home.

My daughter was pulling this and a dump trailer all week:

IMG_1469.jpg

This setup is about 7K pounds, the dump trailer was about 8K. Easy peasy.

That was about the limit of our Reese Tactical Adjustable Hitch so I moved the Curt 45900 Adjustable Hitch into my shopping cart to double the capacity.

The most I’ve put old faithful pulling
Between the trailer 4500lbs and the pallets full of sod weighing around 3500lbs a piece it was a whopping 15,000lbs just about
She did not like it but hauled it 1.5 hr away like a champ! Diddnt break 50 though lol

pjs 4.8 above he bent the frame pulling this kubota so when we went to our farm buddy’s land to make the dump for the day we unhooked the trailer picked his truck up by the Reese hitch about 8-10 ft in the air with the big CAT excavator and let it drop in attempts to get it somewhat straightened back out hahaha
We put 7 big pine trees in that trailer loaded past the wood rails and that blue truck was squatted so much the Reese hitch was dragging the driveway on his way out
