Thule & Yakima - Why the delays?

We've had our Yukon for months, and GM has sold tens of thousands of vehicles.

Why is Thule and Yakima taking so long figuring out what crossbars fit? I heard that some people have ordered cheap crossbars on Amazon with no issue, so the rails obviously aren't anything exotic right?.

I mean in general Thule roof racks will fit on any crossbar. I bought the Chevy OEM bars and got a used Thule on OfferUp for $150.

Here it is the day I picked it up. But the racks have a claw that tighten around essentially any shape bar but the ones Chevy sells look great.

I'm really hoping for some strong crossbars that I can leave on and also have low road noise. Do you hear wind noise from the GM crossbars?

No noise at all. They also come with a locking mechanism and are very heavy duty. I would definitely recommend the ones available from Chevy. They also held onto the loaded up Thule rack for 2500 miles.

I have been waiting as well.

The factory ones look really high. New Tahoe is already 1.5 inches taller than my previous Yukon Denali. The crossbars on the Denali seemed more flush and I still struggled in parking garages.

ShopChevyParts.com they arrived in 2 days from Florida to PA and they had a code for an additional discount (New2021) when I ordered. With shipping it was like $375 so it was 25% discount.

The truck is about 81 inches high with these installed and most standard garages are 84 inches (7 foot).

Thule makes a kit that fits but they are expensive, $750. For those still looking there is an EBAY vendor that is selling the stock GM cross bars for $250-275. He was selling them for $200 but as they continue to sell the price continues to rise. I ordered mine for $250 yesterday and they should be here Monday. Looks like he is listing them for $275 now.

I waited to Yakima to come out with something and even reached out to them as well but they couldn't give an ETA.
Went with the OEM and I don't see Yakima being able to come up with an easier install than OEM. Maybe they can match it but man the OEM bars are BY FAR the easiest cross bar I've ever installed and I've had multiple Thule solutions on different cars as well as Yakima.
Yes they're a bit high but actually in person they aren't bad and with my 21' Z71 I've never had an issue in a parking garage.

Can't recommend the OEM ones enough, plus they're stout and come with eyelets molded-in for strapping things down to the cross bars.

Well mine just arrived. If you are looking for a steal of a deal on the factory GM cross bars hit ebay now. I just purchased mine shipped to my door (Arrived in 2 days) and they are factory GM cross bars. Paid $250+tax. Looks like the price went up to $275 which is still a helluva deal.

Nice! I tried that on one of the postings but it sold right away so when he posted another set for $250 I went with it. Glad it worked.

Nice! Looks good up there. I have the Thule XT Motion L in gloss black, basically the same as that one. Do you have an 8' garage door? Does the truck fit inside with the box mounted? I put mine on in the garage and need about 4" of head room to be able to get out with it mounted. Sort of annoying because I could go in and out with it mounted on my '19 Tahoe. Shows how much taller these new rigs are. My Yukon has air suspension so not sure if that makes a difference.
