My fog lights aren't worth $#!&

You don't want the fog lights to shine up high, they are designed to shine right over the driving surface so you can see during a fog!

i know that, but, the output of fog lights only at the moment is equal to the light output of my cell phone's flash light...
I'm not aiming to install lights that will blind oncoming drivers (like a lot of these Jeep-driving bastids do, lol)

I think most people don't realize the purpose of Fog Lights. The primary purpose is so approaching driver's can better see your vehicle in the fog from a greater distance. The secondary purpose is to point down so you can better see the fog line (stripe) on the shoulder of the road.

Making them brighter can have the damaging effect of causing glare and reducing your visibility where you need it the most (watching the fog line). This is why you generally do not want to use your high beams during heavy fog conditions.

so my stock fog lights are in name only... I can't see any difference when they're turned on, i can only see a little bit of light on the ground just in front of the truck when i peek over the hood, that is all

is there an aftermarket option? or can they be adjusted to aim a little bit higher? Dealer tells me there is no adjustment for them... I'm not sure if upgrading the bulbs will help, seems like the stock light pattern in these is, well, crappy...

so my stock fog lights are in name only... I can't see any difference when they're turned on, i can only see a little bit of light on the ground just in front of the truck when i peek over the hood, that is all

On 2011 Suburban LTZ = We've always been advocates of two things - We not only want to see well Day and Night, but we also want to be seen. So besides the Foglights we have DRL's and we replaced the front headlight assemblies with the LED Halo Projector Lights which are DOT approved and legal in our state. (Spyderauto.com) We also replaced the rear Brake light assemblies with the LED by Syder as well. (they look like the lights on late model GM products). What's next? A 22inch Heise 2 row LED light bar with DRL strip that gets mounted behind the lower grill.

My old as dried dog poop 2007 has adjustment nuts on the back side for just that purpose... They took that away from your style the way they did the in-cabin air filtration for my style, too? Harder and harder to continue to like GM when they skimp yet charge more on each iteration. Odd stuff.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon and I agree with new LED's. Plus, make sure the lens is clean and clear.


We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.


If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

I tried a few sets of fog light bulbs until I bought the below Xeon depot bulbs in the 5000K color...AMAZING output! A little pricey for fog bulbs but after using them I’d pay double for them again! They are so bright I don’t usually run them when driving in traffic - mainly because I get people flashing their brights at me because they are so bright! So I did the ‘all lights mod’ so when my Hi beams are on it turns on the Lows and Fogs all at the same time and I leave my lights on ‘auto’ dim for approaching traffic (heavy deer populations in my area at night!) and you’d think I have a high power light bar with the amount of light I now have at night (I also upgraded my lows to matching 5000K bulbs)....highly recommend!

No, the point and title of this thread relates to fog lights. This thread has been only about fog lights, that’s why I alerted you. It’s not about headlights. There’s plenty of threads encompassing headlights. LED, HID, true retrofits, etc. Thanks though.

so i got time to throw in the Morimoto's today.
i can confirm that the stock fogs are indeed adjustable, left-right-up-down, when dealer's service advisor told me they weren't adjustable
Morimoto's require use of stock bracket and the up-down adjustment screw (easy swap)
going to go finish them now and wait for dark and report back on initial impression

After I installed my Morimoto’s one of the plastic clips that I swapped over ended up falling out. Those little pieces of plastic are like $18 shipped. Make sure yours are snug.

well... tried to plug in the plug from the fogs to the stock harness - no go, it does not fit. wtf? it seems like the guide pins, or whatever you call them, on the outside of the new plug are different than the stock harness. grrrr

I am thinking of changing mine as well. I think the 880 can be replaced with an 881 even.
