Hello everyone..

I recently purchased an '07 Tahoe PPV and it looks like I need to have the rear end rebuilt according to my mechanic. It currently has a 3.73 gear and was wondering if I should lower it to a 3.08. The vehicle will never be in high speed pursuits anymore or have the need to tow anything. Mainly just interstate driving.

How much do you think the MPG increase with the 3.08?

Thanks in advance

MPG should go UP with the 3.08 as your engine rpm will be lower for higher speeds.

Look up a gear ratio calculator to find out the difference in rpm.
I doubt it will be much less and will probably not save you anything .
The truck will be more sluggish.
Also consider the cost for the swap, you will probably break even on the cost in ten years, ha.

tap a talka thingy

I have a 2011 yukon with the 3.08s and the mpg on hwy are great, you can easily average 20mpgs...running a larger tire and/or city driving is not so great I was going to mention if you do decide to swap to 3.08 I would be interested in you current 3.73s. Is yours 4wd? Anyway, if you are not looking to tow and purley hwy driving i would go with the 3.08s.

Do they make 3.73s for the front axle?
