dumb insterment cluster question

ok so I have a dumb cluster question in another post I mentioned that when I bought my 03 Tahoe the cluster did not work. I put a used cluster in it so here is my question.

I was told the ecm stores the mileage on the Tahoe, and that when I put a used cluster in it it will show my true milage, is this true? I know dumb question but with this drive by wire crap I don't know what is true or not as ive had a few people tell me this.

your miles are stored in the old cluster only, not any where else.

it is possible to read the miles from the old one and set that mileage to the new used cluster. i know ebay cluster repair guys can do it.
